Bret Michaels Suffers Massive Brain Hemorrhage

Bret Michaels, the front man for the former 80's rock band, Poison, has been admitted to an undisclosed hospital with a massive brain hemorrhage. Bret blogged earlier this week about his recent appendectomy surgery and seemed to be recovering fine until he began to experience severe headaches on Thursday.

He was rushed to the hospital and was said to be bleeding at the base of his brain stem. The latest information says that Bret is in critical condition and is being closely monitored by his physicians.

At 47 years old, Bret Michaels is no spring chicken, but the handsome rocker has held up well over the years given the rock and roll lifestyle that he so gloriously lived during the prime years of the band, Poison.

Bret has his own reality show, Rock of Love on Vh1 and is currently a contestant on Donald Trump's reality show, Celebrity Apprentice. Bret is the father of two lovely girls, Raine Elizabeth Sychak and Jorja Bleu Sychak with former girlfriend, Kristi Lynn Gibson. Though Bret and Kristi have never married, they seem to enjoy a very close and loving relationship, which can only be a good thing for their children.

Unlike so many rock stars, Bret Michaels also seems to be a pretty smart guy with a good head for business. With his own film production company which he owns with Charlie Sheen, Sheen/Michaels Entertainment, he has produced several movies and television shows, some of which Michaels has written, directed and starred in. Sheen/Michaels Entertainment also produced the feature film Free Money, which starred Marlon Brando and Mira Sorvino. Not too shabby.

In 2007, Bret toured with the USO and entertained the troops in Iraq - kudos for him. And in 2008, he appeared on a special celebrity edition of Don't Forget the Lyrics! winning over $200,000 dollars for charity.

Given all that he does, Bret Michaels doesn't seem to be the typical, self-absorbed, aging rocker, which makes his recent health issues all the more tragic. It's one thing if you've lived hard and fast and reap the consequences for your bad choices, as so many over-indulged rockers tend to do. But, quite another if, like Bret, you've given a lot, worked hard and lived a pretty decent life, only to have some unfortunate set backs with your health.

Though I can't say I'm a huge fan of Bret Michaels as a musician, actor or rock star, I certainly admire that he's done well for himself in a world where drugs, sex and rock and roll take down so many people. So, here's to hoping Bret recovers quickly and is able to get back on his feet soon.
