Brett Butler, Bill Fahey, Kelly Gruber, and Lance Johnson Sign Autographs Through the Mail

Four Former Major Leaguers Sign Baseball Cards Through the Mail

Marie Lowe
One of my all-time favorite players, Brett Butler, is a quick through the mail autograph responder.

I received my autograph baseball card back from Butler in just 11 days after I sent the request.

Butler began his career with the Atlanta Braves in 1979 and made his debut in 1981.

In 1982, Butler was key part of the Braves team that started the season 13-0. The team went on to win the National League Division Title.

Butler went on to play with the Cleveland Indians, San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the New York Mets

In his first season with the Indians, Butler was the first hitter that Roger Clemens faced.

In 1996, Butler was diagnosed with Squamous cell carcinoma of the tonsils, underwent treatment and managed to play again before retiring in 1997.

Currently Butler manages the Reno Aces, a minor league affiliated with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

A few days after receiving Butler's autograph, the mailman dropped three more cards in the mailbox.

Bill Fahey, Kelly Gruber, and Lance Johnson are all successes now.

Fahey is a former player and coach.

Fahey played for the Washington Senators. The team later became known as the Texas Rangers. He also played for the San Diego Padres and the Detroit Tigers.

His son is Brandon Fahey, an infielder for the Baltimore Orioles.

Gruber is a former Toronto Blue Jay and a two-time All-Star. He spent all but one of his 10 seasons with the Blue Jays. He played his final year with the California Angels.

Currently Gruber works as a motivational speaker for various charities.

Johnson spent 14 seasons in the big leagues and was known as the One Dog, which is how he signed his card.

Johnson played with the St. Louis Cardinals, White Sox, Mets, Chicago Cubs and the New York Yankees.

Today he lives in Alabama.

Other players that I have sent requests to are Livan Hernandez, Latroy Hawkins, Tony Pena, Omar Vizquel, Tim Wakefield, Tommy John, Steve Garvey, Ron Gant, Bryan Harvey, Tommy Lasorda, Ray Fontenot, Jason Thompson, Leon Durham, Dave Winfield, Jay Tibbs, Mike Scioscia, Ken Howell, Eric Davis, Randy Milligan, Tim Burke, Jay Bell, Danny Tartabull, Joe Magrane, Roger McDowell, Rick Aguilera, Nick Esasky, Kevin Seitzer, Dave Burba, Chris Sabo, Charlie Hayes, Tommy Gregg, Junior Ortiz, Mariano Duncan, Mo Vaughn, Andy Hawkins, Howard Johnson, Matt Nokes, Julio Franco, Allan Trammell, Steve Buechele, Jim Eisenreich, William Van Landingham, Rick Rhoden, Bruce Ruffin, Rafael Palmiero, Mike Stanley, Curt Wilkerson, Tim Laudner, Mike Mason, Craig Reynolds, Kevin Bass, and Wade Boggs.
