Brett Farve, the Green Bay Packers Quarterback, announced his retirement this morning.
This past season I fell in love with football, particularly the Green Bay Packers because my husband is such a huge fan. There is a lot to admire about the Green Bay Packers and specifically, Brett Farve.
After 17 seasons, Farve admits that he is mentally tired and stressed. "'I know I can still play, but it's like I told my wife, I'm just tired mentally. I'm just tired,' Farve told ESPN's Chris Mortensen in a voice mail message." (Source: Yahoo)
It took my husband quite a bit of persuading before I could sit through a game without rolling my eyes. However, by the end of the season I was cheering right along with him with every touchdown. We even purchased a dog and named him Packer.
Our dog, Packer, even seems a little down today; I think he's picking up on our depressed state.
There is no doubt in my mind that Brett Farve is a legend in NFL history; he walks away with 5,377 career completions in 8,758 attempts for 61,655 yards, 442 touchdowns and 288 interceptions. (Source: Yahoo)
This past season, his last, Farve also made a record-streak of 253 consecutive regular season starts. One of the most memorable traits Farve possesses is his love for the game. Watching the television clips now, many people are commenting on how Farve always had a smile on his face while playing.
Farve did end his last season with a loss in the Suberbowl championship against the New York Giants. He didn't lose without a good fight though; the Packers lost 23-20 in overtime. Despite the loss, this past season was by far the best season Farve has played.
He will be missed!

Post a CommentIt's a sad day in my home. When I first heard it, I ignored it thinking it wasn't true. Hoping he would be back, and that this is not official. Unfortunately, it seems this is the real thing.
TYPO! I guess I was in a hurry and overlooked this detail - in the last paragraph. It should say, "Farve did end his last season with a loss in the playoff game before the Suberbowl championship against the New York Giants."
