Brett Favre Fined $50,000 for Lying in Jenn Sterger Scandal

Brett Favre probably should have stayed home this season. Following a year of career highs, it is easy to see the temptation of coming back and playing for yet another season in the NFL. Instead, Favre has been plagued with injuries and scandals throughout the entire season.

The scandal that followed Brett Favre throughout the season was one in which he was being accused of sexually harassing Jenn Sterger a former Jet's reporter. The extent of the harassment included texted photos of his male genetalia. The question has been from the beginning, whether the behavior was of offense to Ms. Sterger or if she enjoyed the attention.

ESPN is reporting that today the NFL announced that Favre will be subjected to a $50,000 fine for his lack of cooperation in the matter. There was not enough evidence according to Goodell and the NFL to say that he violated the leagues workplace conduct rules. To the next extent, the NFL has said that they cannot prove that the photos were actually of Brett Favre.

Many will argue that the league is playing favorites. They promised weeks ago to deliver a decision before the season was over. That they did...with only one week left to play and Favre done for the season and his career due to injury, this punishment seems almost worthless.

The question of course remains if it were another player not as well known would they have received the same treatment? Would there have been suspensions and an earlier decision? The question will remain. No one except the league and the parties involve know the evidence.

Regardless of the punishment, Brett Favre is ending his career with a season that he would likely rather forget. From injuries, breaking his career start streak, losing season with the Vikings and the scandal surrounding him, it is clear that Favre has seen better days.
