Brett Favre: The Greatest Story Ever Told

Han Van Meegerin
According to a Minnesota Viking's press release, Brett Favre has signed with the Minnesota Vikings. Chris Mortensen an ESPN Senior analyst commented that Favre will play for the Minnesota Vikings this year for between between 10-12 million dollars. The Minnesota Vikings will apparently introduce Brett Favre at a news conference at 6pm EST.

What a difference three weeks makes. On July 29, 2009 Brett Favre announced to ESPN's Ed Werder that he would not come out of retirement and play football with the Minnesota Vikings this year. Favre described his decision in these words, "It was the hardest decision I've ever made." As if this statement needed more clarification Favre added, "I didn't feel like physically I could play at a level that was acceptable". It was reported at the time that Favre was concerned that he would be criticized if he signed, reported to camp and ended up unable to maintain his commitment.

ESPN reports that since Favre's announcement on July 29, 2009 "Favre remained in regular communication with the Vikings' coaching staff" and that a source said that "owner Zygi Wilf had to do very little convincing when the two met this week near Favre's home in Hattiesburg."

This seems like weird behavior for a man who appeared so anguished for the last three months as he struggled to determine if he should end his retirement and play football for the Minnesota Vikings.

Apparently, he still has aches and pains in his knee and ankles and his doctor has indicated that he has a slight tear in his right rotator cuff tear. I guess this is no longer a concern for Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings seem to be willing to overlook Favre's physical imperfections.

On June 16, 2009 I wrote a piece called, Is Favre Acting Cheesy? Now that Favre is a Minnesota Viking, I believe the answer to that question is yes.

On July 15, 2009 I penned, Brett Favre Raises his Annual Crop of Cain. I believe that given this new development since that article was written, Favre will harvest a bumper crop of Cain this year.

Now that Brett Favre is a Minnesota Viking, I do not believe it is too late for Packer fans or anybody for that matter to execute the plan that is outlined in my July 15, 2009 article, Trash Your Favre Stash.

Lastly, I believe now that Brett Favre is a Minnesota Viking, it is fair to ask as this July 15, 2009 article does, Is Brett Favre the Next Harold Stassen?

I knew that he was gonna sign with the Vikings at the end of August. He just didn't want to have to go through training camp. This contract was worked up and agreed upon earlier this offseason he just didn't sign it.
