When Joe Buck asked Favre if he plans to play in the NFL next year, Favre only responded with a "maybe". That was a surprise, as Favre has said that he was retired for good earlier this year and had no interest in playing in the NFL again.
Favre also admitted to talking to Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress, contrary to earlier reports made. Brett also said that Minnesota was the only team on his radar and the only one that he has talked to. He also complimented the Vikings offense, saying that it was a very similar offense that he ran for 16 seasons while with the Green Bay Packers. If Favre was to join the Vikings, he would have a great running back in Adrian Peterson and a pretty good offensive line.
Favre confirmed that he did have surgery done by Dr. James Andrews to repair an injury to his throwing shoulder more than two weeks ago. Brett also said that it would be four to five weeks, or about a month, before it is known how well the surgery actually went. The throwing shoulder had been hurting Favre late last season, and attributed to the Jets losing four of their last five games in the regular season and missing the playoffs. In those five games, Favre threw eight interceptions, to only two touchdown passes.
The most talked about part of the interview last night was when Favre responded to a question about the talent on the Vikings by saying: "We should be pretty good." It might of just been a mess-up but this line speaks volumes. Favre has put a lot of thought about playing for the Vikings in 2009 and will make his decision very soon.
Favre had only praise for the Vikings organization and did talk about a lot of the reasons why he would want to be a Viking next season.
The bottom line is that Brett Favre wants to play in the NFL again because he wants to show that he still can, even at the age of 40, and be one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Favre also wants to join the Minnesota Vikings to get revenge on the Green Bay Packers for making him retire the first time and showing him the door.
Expect Brett Favre to come out of retirement for the second time and into the Purple and Gold before the 2009 season.
