At first glance, Brian Anthony may seem like the typical wrestler from the Northeast region. And that's not a bad thing, considering the area is blossoming with young talent. But if you get a chance to watch him perform, you will swiftly realize why hes been named the 5th participant in Top Rope Promotions 6th Annual Kowalski Cup Tournament.
The tournament takes place on Friday night October 7th 2011. Live from the Police Athletic League in Fall River, Massachusetts, the tournament also features Ring of Honor's "Prodigy" Mike Bennett, Matt Magnum, Julian Starr and "The Ladies Man" Gregory Edwards with manager Marshal McNeil.
For Brian Anthony, this will be the first time the Bethel, Connecticut native wrestles at the Police Athletic League in Fall River. It will also be his debut event for Top Rope Promotions. It's a tall honor to be asked to debut and compete in such a prestigious tournament.
Anthony started pro wrestling training in 2004, just one year after graduating from Bethel High School. His outgoing and witty personality made him a popular student in High School, and it made him perfectly suited for the circus like atmosphere of pro wrestling. Under the tutelage of former ECW TV Champion Jason Knight, Anthony started his journey into the world of independent wrestling. After Jason Knight, Brian Anthony started training with an even bigger wrestling star. Former WWE and WCW star, "Pretty" Paul Roma. It was from Paul Roma that Brian learned the ins and outs of professional wrestling.
" One of my favorite training moments came when Paul came out of retirement to take an indy booking all the way in Indiana just to get myself an another student on the show", Brian lamented. "The 13+ hour drive gave us a chance to really see what wrestling was like during his era, experiencing the long drive, and listening to all the stories. Something he absolutely never had to do for us, but something I appreciated and won't ever forget."
In addition to Indiana, Brian has wrestled up and down the east coast. However, he spends most of his time wrestling for Northeast Wrestling, the largest independent wrestling organization in the area. Northeast Wrestling draws thousands of fans to their shows, and Brian's talented persona is always evident.
One of Brian's greatest moments in wrestling has been working with "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair and "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart. Seconded by the man who managed Hulk Hogan to his first WCW title, Brian Anthony was on the receiving end of Ric Flair's knife edged chops and his signature figure four leglock. Brian Anthony is one of the few indy wrestlers who have had the privilege of working such a high profile superstar.
Brian Anthony has also gained experience working with pro wrestling stars like Jeff Hardy, Shannon Moore, and Hurricane Helms. Anthony wrestled Hurricane Helms in front of a sold out Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, New York. The civic center was home to several tapings of WWE Monday Night Raw in the early 90s.
Indy wrestling hasn't always been kind to Brian Anthony, but he has proved to be a resilient and tough competitor. In 2004, Anthony broke his jaw during a wrestling match. To prove his worthiness to his trainer Jason Knight, he finished his match and still did ring crew. Although it wasn't the smartest thing to do, Brian Anthony wanted to prove he wasn't just another ripped body.
On October 7th, Brian Anthony brings his brand and style of professional wrestling to the Fall River Faithful. And he is looking to make a big impact. Based on his resume, it looks like Brian Anthony is only weeks away from acquiring another accolade.
Chance of Winning: Brian Anthony's chance of winning is great. He has got seven years of experience behind him, plus he has worked numerous main event matches with superstars from all over the nation. His consistent work in Northeast Wrestling remains some of the best performances in the area. Brian Anthony seems like a good gamble.
