Brian Lazanik delivers a crisp hilarious barrage of quick jokes and observations that will catch you off guard and knock you over. In some ways he is a throw back to the classic stylings of the Vegas rat pack, Henny Youngman and Tommy Cooper. He is just flat out funny without much need for profanity or mature subject matter. In fact, most of his act is suitable for all ages and he writes in a way that is quickly relatable to a broad audience.
John Mulaney is hysterical. Here is a young guy who discovered that by keeping it simple and straight forward, you can still own your audience. He manages to do just that. If you were to see John live it might take you a few moments to get into him but once you buy what he is selling, buckle up. This guy knows how to tear it up. He is an American comedian who is a clear stand out amongst he peers. John also has chosen to keep it clean mostly and has a guy next door appeal that is disarming and likable.
Mulaney perhaps is best described as a modern day Alan King. That is not to say that John is quite in King's league...yet. There is no doubt that he will get there. For those who are fans of Alan King, you will remember an electric energy that draws in the audience. He could also deliver a story in a way that left you wanting not just more but wanting to know more about King. Mulaney is able to draw you into his stories and leave you anxious to hear what comes next. He is captivating and has discovered angles that are simply hilarious.
The most endearing qualities perhaps of both Brian Lazanik and John Mulaney is that they are genuinely entertaining. They are both extremely funny with a capital FUN. As a viewer you will walk away from their shows, whether live or on television, feeling better than you did before. That is what entertainment should be all about. It should make you feel good. It should affect you physically with a good laugh from time to time. It is difficult to understand how so much television programming today is now dedicated to conflict, anger and shock when there are so many better options available.
This article could have been about numerous talented individuals working today who most people have yet to hear about. It just so happens that I caught these two guys on the same television showcase and was genuinely taken by how much fun they both were. If you are looking for some great entertainment and big laughs as well as a change from the same old repetitive programming out there today, see if you can spend a few minutes of your day with Lazanik or Mulaney. You will enjoy it.
