Brian Orakpo, an Award-Winning NFL Draft Choice

Jessica Ann
Brian Orakpo has definitely made a mark as an award-winning defensive player for the Texas Longhorns, including the Lombardi Award for the nation's top lineman, the Nagurski Trophy and the 2008 Hendricks Award among others. At 6'4" and 200 pounds, he is a force to be reckoned with and appears to have a bright future. In 2008 he managed eleven unassisted sacks in twelve games, more than half in one year of his total career unassisted sacks of twenty.

He is a big boy who can bench press 515 lbs. and squat 600, which helped him in being named the nations top workout warrior by ESPN and he is relatively quick which is one reason he has racked up so many awards which also includes Defensive Freshman of the Year and Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year. The only problem I see which he needs to keep in check and be very protective of is a recurring knee injury which has kept him out of the some games over his college football career since 2007. This has impacted his rankings in the draft picks for 2009, but his overall impressive stats could keep him right up there regardless, but he is going to have to start being more protective of that knee. He is a suberb player and is certainly ready to take on the job of an NFL defensive end. According to Frank Cooney's NFL Draft Scout site he is ranked as a #2 defensive end draft pick which could be snatched up in round one.

Personally, he has also made a mark as a prep honor roll student who maintained above a 3.0 GPA, is a member of the University of Texas' Athletics Director Honor Roll and is very active in his community and its youths.

I think we should keep an eye out for Mr. Orakpo as we could watch him achieve his goal of breaking the record for all-time sacks.
