Personally, I hate waiting. Generally, I will not wait hours for a meal, never mind waiting to seat THEN eat. The Brick Alley Pub is an exception. The time went by comfortably (about 35 minutes) looking at all the very interesting memorabilia on the walls which gave a brief history of Newport and had many other interesting subjects. When visiting Newport, the Brick Alley Pub is a must for great food and atmosphere.

There is comfortable seating and unequalled service from the most friendly wait staff I have ever had to the pleasure to meet. They have an excellent menu from homemade Portuguese Kale soup from their extensive salad bar which I had as an appetizer to Black Angus Fillet with béarnaise sauce which I had after the soup. If you never tasted well-made Kale's soup, I strongly recommend you try it. Being raised in Fall River and of Cape Verdean descent, I have had many versions and these are tops.

When served the dinner was arranged pleasingly and was plentiful. We didn't pay much attention to our surroundings because all our senses were in overdrive. What a delicious dinner! My wife Karen had Chicken Au Poivre which is boneless and skinless chicken breast cover with sauce of Cognac, fresh cream, a hint of Dijon mustard and black peppercorns. (Dinner Menu, Brick Alley Pub) Occasionally, we would look at the others dish and say how good the other's dinner look and we would end up sharing SOME.

We were asked routinely if everything was well; it is difficult to respond with your mouth full.

Many guests staying at the Bayberry Inn which Karen manages have dined at the Brick Alley Pub on her recommendation and have nothing but praise for the experience. Many guests who return also return to the Brick Alley Pub.

While Karen and I seldom drink, for those who enjoy a drink before, with, or after dinner, they have a fine selection of mixed drinks, beers, and wine for which they have earned the Award of Excellence from the Wine Spectator.

They have been featured on foodnetwork.com, Rhode Island's Monthly Best, Phantom Gourmet, Where the Locals Eat, and Newport Life Magazine: Best of Newport County. I don't pay attention to reviews. For me it all boils down to four questions, did you enjoy the atmosphere? YES! Did you enjoy the food? YES! Was the price right? YES! Would you go back? YES!
