Mamas, you are clearly at fault here. Apparently, you raised your daughters to be blind to what really matters in life. The epitome of an American princess about to wed her prince with the full expectation that all her dreams are about to come true. Get over yourself Bridezilla, show some grace and civility. Take all the time you need to create a wonderful wedding to start your new life together with your Prince Charming. No one is rushing you or overwhelming you but yourself. Take control of yourself, stop whining and blaming others, it's unbecoming behavior for a princess.
It is disturbing to see mothers openly supporting their daughters in riding roughshod not just over the service people hired to handle the wedding arrangements, no - you watch while she steps on her friends and families feelings for weeks on end. While we are at it where are the men in this equation?
I cannot help but be fascinated and I fleetingly sympathize with a mom reclining on a couch, obviously exhausted and unable to cope with her strong willed daughter. Then I come to my senses and continue channel flipping. To see such flagrant disregard for good manners may be a mirror of our society, reflecting our exaggerated expectations and inflated egos. It is an alarming facet of our times to see such behavior practically condoned and glamorized on a TV show.
Finances or the lack thereof also seems to be a recurring theme. Daddies to the rescue in some cases and an overdrawn bank account for others. What happened to instilling a sense of financial responsibility?
If you cannot afford anymore than a Justice of the Peace and a picnic in the park, then invite your family and friends to the picnic. Be happy and grateful you have plenty of food, time to enjoy the sunshine and the opportunity to share your love and introduce your new husband to all your family and friends.
There have been and always will be the jitters and a tear or two shed in the process of planning a wedding, but the phenomenon of Bridezillas is a sign of our times I could do without!

Post a CommentIm in the process of planning my wedding and I am not acting like a roaring #$%$ over this I am so sick of seeing women behave in the most cruel and sometimes abusive fashion thinking the world revolves around them. It's not about them because a wedding isnt always about the bride it's about two people making a commitment to each other. Society has us thinking that it's all about the bride when it's two people involved in the marriage.
Cute article.
I hear ya! The whole 'it's MY wedding so why shouldn't you want to spend $200 on a bridesmaid's dress' mentality is distressing at best. :P
Nicely put, I never went through the Bridezilla phase before my wedding. Actually, I was probably not enthusiastic enough about my wedding planning, thank God I had an amazing best friend and Mom to walk me through it. It's always nice to hear women talking about this subject and calling out the bridezillas...great work.
Well said. The whole "look at me, look at me!" thing just in't my cup of tea. I'm a low-key kinda gal.
I'm with you. I wish the Bridezillas would wake up and live in reality, whatever that is.
Great article Rose! I agree....too many mom's spoil their little princesses and when they grow up they expect everything.
