Brief Biography of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton

Jeffrey Moss
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is one of the Democratic Presidential candidates for the 2008 election. She was born on October 26, 1947 to Hugh and Dorothy Rodham of Park Ridge, Illinois. Hillary participated as a Girl Scout and Brownie in her early years. At the age of thirteen, Hillary met Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through her youth minister. In 1965, Hillary attended Wellesley College , where her major was political science. A few years after graduating from Wellesley, Hillary attended Yale University, where she met future husband and 42nd President of the United States Bill Clinton. The two began dating in 1971 and were eventually married on October 11, 1975, just four years after they started dating. Hillary became First Lady of Arkansas in 1979, a position that was held for twelve years.

When Bill was sworn in as President of the United States in January of 1993, Hillary became the First Lady of the United States and that she would now use Clinton in her last name instead of being called Hillary Rodham. In 1998, the most infamous scandal of the Clinton administration was revealed. It was brought to the public's attention that President Clinton had a sexual relationship with Monica Lewinsky, a young intern in the White House.

Bill's famous phrase of "I did not have sexual relations with that young intern" became a comedy routine for comedians like Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien. Through that entire scandal, Hillary stuck by her husband's side and defended him to the end. After the charges were dropped, Bill finished out his two terms as President which led up to the election of President George W. Bush.

Two years after Bill's presidency ended, Hillary ran for a seat in the United States Senate for New York. After winning the election, Hillary has served four years as a Senator and is currently running for the position of President of the United States, hoping to be the first woman sworn into that office.

So far, she has won two states and still has a lot more to go before the final decision is made as to who will lead our country at the start of 2009. She is still in a close race with Senator Barack Obama of Illinois. The two have been neck and neck for months in the polls and in the caucuses. They are both the front runners for the Democratic Party and both have promising futures if elected as President. I'm still torn between Clinton and Obama but I hope to have my choice narrowed down soon.

Earlier today, John Edwards announced that he is ending his campaign for the Presidency of the United States which only leaves Hillary and Obama in the race for the Democratic nomination. Hopefully, only one will be left after Super Tuesday is over with. I will be watching the debates tonight and tomorrow night and plan to post my views on both of them.
