Brief History of Pace Park Salado Texas

Private Pen
Pace Park, once the site of Davis Mill, was donated by John Pace and his sister, Mrs. John Hodges, in memory of their father, W.A. Pace, one of the Salado pioneers.

The State of Texas granted a charteer to the Pace Memorial Park Association April 8, 1947. Joe K. Morris served as chairman of the association and Mrs. Jamie (Lottie) Barton was secretary. The park is maintained and operated by the citizens of Salado under the direction of the Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to being the site of the annual Salado Art Fair, Pace Park has been utilized for Auto Club conventions, the Tablerock Festival, Gathering of Scottish Clans, the Salado Reunion and countless family reunions.

The Pavilion, built in 1978-79 and named for Lottie Barton, has been a mecca for reunions and holiday observances.

The park is no longer under the control of the Salado Chamber of Commerce. In 2009 it was handed over to the Village of Salado city office.

2009 will be the first year for the Gathering of the Scottish Clans to EVER be held at Pace Park. The Village Green - belonging to Stagecoach Inn was its home for many years. Most of the Green - also the original home of the Salado Old Settlers Reunions is now a parking lot for the Inn. While Tablerock can be viewed from the Park (it sits across the creek at Twelve Oaks)...Tablerock Festival of Salado is the incorporation of the board of directors for the Tablerock Amphitheater located on Royal Street.
