Bright and Clear - a Whimsy in Rhyme for Christmastime

Linda Ann Nickerson

Colored sparkles, Elmer's Glue,
Stick to your fingers and smear -
It's the most glorious time of the year.

The earliest snowfall, that crystal-bright morn,
But was there a blizzard when Jesus was born?
I love to remember white Christmas and lights,
The stockings, the presents, the long winter's night.

O holy night, so bright and clear,
It's the most glorious time of the year.

It came upon the midnight clear, that very first Noel.
The herald angels sang with cheer, "O Come, Immanuel."
Asleep in the manger, our Heavenly Peace,
Not a cloud in the sky, but a star in the east.

O holy night, so bright and clear,
It's the most glorious time of the year.

So come, all you faithful; all Christians rejoice.
Sing, "Glory in the highest," and lift heart and voice.
And deck those halls with silver bells; His happy tidings tell.
For I'll be home this Christmas to sing with jingling bells.

O holy night, so bright and clear,
It's the most glorious time of the year.
