Bright Spirits on Threads of Fire Fly

(An Old Irishman's Offering for Autumn)

Rick Amandan

Bright spirits, motes, on threads of fire fly,

Invoked from deep in autumn gather 'round

To leap the flames, caress the crackling sky.

Young ancients come Earthward to sing and scry,

Dancers and drummers and pipers unbound

Bright spirits, motes, on threads of fire fly.

Their visions ignited in leaves crisp dry,

Fierce passions alighted they join spellbound

To leap the flames, caress the crackling sky.

Trace unwinding spirals, under Mabon moon high,

While Treebeards chant softly from mists that surround

Bright spirits, motes, on threads of fire fly.

Lithe bodies afire sound ecstatic cry,

Loft wishes to heaven, their hope expound;

To leap the flames, caress the crackling sky.

Full spent by the dawn when embers cold die

Such angels float so gently down to ground.

Bright spirits, motes, on threads of fire fly

To leap the flames, caress the crackling sky.
