Brilliance Inks for Rubber Stamping, Scrapbooking, Card Making and Paper Crafts

Amy Solovay
Brilliance ink pads are popular with rubber stampers, scrapbookers, card makers, art journalers, mixed media artists, and paper crafters. As a stamping enthusiast, I own numerous ink pads. Brilliance inks are usually one of the first I reach for when I am stamping. I LOVE the range of Brilliance colors, especially the pearlescent inks.

Surfaces Recommended For Use With Brilliance Ink:

Brilliance is a pigment ink that is formulated for use on a variety of surfaces. You can use it on paper, acetate, vellum, shrink plastic, sculpey clay, photos, tissue paper, wood, and porous surfaces. I have also had success stamping with Brilliance on acrylic albums, although acrylic is NOT technically on Tsukineko's list of compatible surfaces. (Please check out my other articles for more information about how to stamp on clear acrylic albums.)

Brilliance inks are acid-free, archival-quality inks that are safe to use in scrapbooks. They are fade-resistant, meaning that if you store and care for your projects carefully, the inks will last for a long time. The ink is non-toxic, and it is safe for kids to play with.

Ink Pad Size:

Each Brilliance ink pad measures approximately 3 inches by 2 inches, and its outer container is slightly larger. The ink pad is ideal for using with large stamps, roller stamps, or brayers. You can easily use smaller stamps with these ink pads as well. These inkpads come with a fully removeable lid, which is handy for easy inking.

Brilliance Ink Drying Times:

Drying time varies. On paper, Brilliance ink dries quickly. On other surfaces it takes longer. Drying time varies depending on a variety of factors, including humidity, amount of ink applied, and the surface you used. You can heat set the ink to speed up the drying time.

Price:

Brilliance ink pads typically sell for retail prices between $7.99 and $8.99, although you can sometimes get lucky and find them on sale. For an inkpad, this is relatively expensive. Many competing products are priced at around $5.00, and some cost even less. Despite the higher cost of Brilliance ink pads, I think these inks are a good value for the money. They are more versatile than their cheaper counterparts, and the pearlescent colors are, in my opinion, worth the money.

Effects and Techniques:

Brilliance Inks are versatile, and they can be used to create a variety of effects and techniques. The most obvious use for them is rubber stamping. They can be used with both rubber stamps and clear stamps, but you do not need stamps to make effective use of Brilliance inks. You can also use them with brayers, and for direct-to-paper applications. They can be used to make inked backgrounds with excellent results.

Brilliance Colors:

Color is one of the most important aspects of my work, and it was the range of available colors that first attracted me to Brilliance Inks. The colors are all outstanding; the Pearlescent colors are my favorites. This ink is outstanding when you consider that most metallic inks will not work on the vast variety of surfaces that Brilliance inks can be used on. Brilliance ink is available in both solid colors and also in variegated 3-color pads. The colors coordinate beautifully.

Maintenance and Cleanup:

Replace lid tightly after each use to prevent the ink pad from drying out. Clean your stamps using Tsukineko stamp cleaner after each use.

Conclusion:

In my opinion, Brilliance inks are a good value for the money you spend on them. I am delighted to recommend Brilliance inks Inks to other scrapbookers, stampers, card makers, and paper crafters.
