Bring on the Christmas Cheer: 5 Great Christmas Movies

Kim Londono
You stood in line for hours to score a brand new flat screen TV. Now, grab a cuddle partner, fuzzy blanket and a cup of hot cocoa and use that TV to spread some cheer! These 5 holiday movies are guaranteed to bring a twinkle to anyone's eye, even the self-proclaimed scrooge's.

Permanently number one is, 'It's a Wonderful Life'. If I were to ask my grandmother, mother, my friends and my (yet to be born) children and grandchildren to name a classic Christmas movie, it would be 'It's a Wonderful Life'. It is reputed as the Christmas movie and I'm pretty sure no explanation is needed as to why.

Coming in second is another widely known movie. In contrary to 'It's a Wonderful Life', 'A Christmas Story' will provoke tears of laughter rather than warm joy. It will slowly squeeze the cheesy Christmas cheer out of you and snap you back to the real world. Suddenly, your unusual family will seem slightly more bearable and you will realize that Christmas is not about gifts or the perfect dinner. Christmas is about family, quirks and all. Another lesson learned, don't buy your kid a BB gun.

Speaking of family quirks, how could I not include 'National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation'? Carrying the same satirical humor as 'A Christmas Story', this movie will keep you laughing. You will walk away ready to hang the lights while thanking the stars you don't have an Uncle Eddie.

Fourth on the list will bring you back to Christmas bliss...'Miracle on 34th St.' Whether you are watching the original from 1947 or the 1994 remake, this movie will tug at your heart strings and make you a believer of Santa Claus.

Will Ferrell in 'Elf' certainly has no problem believing in Santa Claus. 'Elf' is a non-stop laugh fest for children and adults of all ages. It is the perfect movie to place a smile on your face after a long, hard day of Christmas shopping.

Snuggle up and enjoy! Merry Christmas!
