Bring Color into Your Bedroom with Behr Paint

Spring Fever? Time to Redecorate!

Beth Inman
Spring is in the air and I feel redecoration fever coming on! After months of being cooped up nothing says new and fresh better than a make over of your favorite room; or the room that needs it most. For me, that room is my bedroom.

A lover of color, I spend a month or more choosing the perfect color. I look for colors that will create mood. For me bedroom I want a restful color; a color that will help me relax after a long, trying day at the office. Being a Florida transplant to Northern Michigan (yes, I did it backwards) I miss the ocean and its calming effect. Because of this, I decided to bring a little of the ocean feel to my Michigan bedroom.

I chose the blue color family for my bedroom. Blue and white is an old time favorite combination, but you can make it your own. Blue is the most common, and natural, color for rooms when you are trying to evoke the feel of water.

If you are having difficulty choosing a color, most paint companies offer sample size bottles of paint in almost every shade. For just under $4, you can order any color sample you wish from the Behr paint company. Shipping is free, so order several different shades. This is a great way to try on different colors without spending a lot of cash on the wrong color. Behr offers more than 2,000 of their Premium Plus® paint shades and 386 Premium Plus Ultra® colors. Buy it, dab it on your wall and live with a few days before you make a decision. This will give you a chance to see the color I your different moods, in different lighting and with different furnishings and decorating ideas.

After many trips to Home Depot, and several visits to Behr's Virtual Color Center, I decided on Bayou Blue, 570b-4 by Behr. This a great match for my Waverly Sea Lily drapes. The drapes are white, yellow, green, and of course, blue. Bayou Blue is a great complementary color to the blues in the drapery material.

I have decided to decorate my walls with stark white objects such as grouping black and white photos in white frames together on one wall. In keeping with the ocean theme, I will be using photos taken at the ocean. My photos will be all different sizes so that it appears more random. For a greater impact, use an uneven number and do not hang everything in an evenly spaced pattern. Random placement will have a more relaxed and natural effect.

I will also be placing 18" wooden words on the wall, painted a flat white. Words such as sweet dreams, and relax lend themselves to the vision of a restful environment. I chose a flat white because it will make the words look softer. A glossy white will make the letters appear harder and sharper and would have a much stronger impact in a different environment. I am going for soft and relaxing, so will be using softer shades and textures. Posters.com offers a great selection of wall words.

I will finish my transformation by tossing some yellow pillows on a snow white spread for my pop of color.

Your bedroom is one of the most important rooms in your home and should be the most comfortable. Whether your room is large or small it can be your haven.
