Brink

on the brink
of indecision.

Toes curled
around the narrow
ledge.

There is a freedom
in the fall,
but,
oh,
to know
where I will land:

a wish to clear
the haze
below,

to wind the maze
'tween instinct and
desire,

to know if what
awaits
are thorns,
the hard cement,
or outstretched arms.

But sometimes,
not to jump
means hitting bottom
just the same.

I guess
I'll take
the leap.
