Bristol Palin Continues Palin Ignorance and Attention-Craving Tradition

COMMENTARY | If the Kennedys are the closest thing to American royalty, the Palins are on the furthest opposite end of the spectrum. Their continuing saga feels more like a long drawn-out Jerry Springer show than anything else, and it could also be compared to the Energizer Bunny that just keeps going and going and going. I'm afraid it's never going to stop.

With the way the Palins reproduce, there will likely be generations of them in the future. This is starting to sound like one of my worst nightmares. When will it ever end?

Sarah Palin has enjoyed prancing around in front of the cameras for quite some time, easily inserting her foot into her mouth at any given opportunity. Like mother, like daughter, it seems, and this time Bristol was caught on in another homophobic rant while filming her new reality television show.

Granted, Bristol was heckled by the man who may have been somewhat inebriated, seeing that they were filming at a bar in West Hollywood, Calif. After she fell off the mechanical bull she'd been riding, they began a heated argument, and Palin asked the man if he hated her mother because he was a homosexual.

Not smart, Bristol. But then again, the unwed mother barely even graduated high school and found it is easier to make money off of her mother's fame and preaching about abstinence, something that she doesn't even believe in, so what can you expect?

If Bristol wants to be in the spotlight, she is going to have to learn to handle confrontations by the public, that stem from not only her own actions, but the actions of her mother. If she wants to continue making money off of her mother's fame, she will have to take what comes along with it. Many people are tired of the Palins using anything and everything they can for financial gain and career opportunities with no care in the world as to who is hurt in the process.

Bristol's rep states that she was only standing her ground and defending her family, and that she is no homophobe. But this isn't the first time this has happened. Back in November, both Bristol and her little sister, Willow, made offensive comments, including homophobic slurs, over Facebook and Bristol posted an apology on her Facebook page after the rant was made public.

If you're going to apologize for something, you shouldn't do the same thing again and expect it to be okay.

Palin's intolerance of homosexuality only perpetuates ignorance that often leads to bullying of gays. There have been too many young people that have been murdered, beaten, or committed suicide as a result.

The Palins are an embarrassment to our country, and though they certainly offer entertainment value, it would be far better for everyone if they just disappeared into the Alaska wilderness, far away from both television and the political arena.
