Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston

Voter's Concern or Mind Your Own Business?

Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol and high school friend Levi Johnston are expecting a baby. Levi's MySpace page has been taken down, and photos of Bristol holding a shotgun and having fun with her friends have been splashed across the world wide web. It is disturbing to realize that some of this information was written by a handful of well respected journalists, and that it implies that Governor Sarah Palin is somehow morally bankrupt.

Website ratings and newspaper sales are important, but at who's expense? Admittedly, much of the information is scattered across cheap amateur blogs, but where does a respectable journalist draw the line? Any self respecting journalist would be inclined to quit rather than compromise integrity by printing this type of trash. The methods employed by many of these people to discredit Governor Palin can only be described as gutter journalism. Once the rhetoric and innuendo about Governor Palin is erased from most of these shabby articles circulating the internet and print publications, there is likely little more left than a good reason to give the woman a parking ticket.

One has to ask where it is written that harassing the families of politicians is an accurate way to gauge the expertise needed for a prominent seat in Washington. Sarah Palin has been accused of many things since being placed onto the Republican ticket last week, but one must be correct in saying that having to protect her children from scandal was definitely not part of the job description. Scouring the news headlines, one can find all kinds of unsupported garbage about the Palin family. Who cares if Todd Palin likes Vodka? assuming that statement was even truthful. There were also no valid arguments to be found which said "Bristol Palin is five months pregnant to high school boyfriend Levi Johnston, and this directly affects Sarah Palin's ability to be a suitable Vice President because.........."

The trend of mixing religious values with politics will never be a viable way to assess anyone's professional credentials. The opinions of the so-called morally correct are contradictory when their only avenue of research leads them down the path of unsubstantiated allegations and disturbing quotes about children. Gossip publications are now in the process of fabricating more filth, and yet most are displaying headlines which imply the information has already been obtained. Even if this were the case, it has nothing to do with Mrs. Palin's executive experience.

If one delved deep enough into the lives of anyone who decided to run for the Presidential office, the list of candidates would be shortened to none.

Once again, Kerry, your views are as important as the next guy's. The thing I appreciated is that they are calmly and reasonably presented and do not constitute a rant. As for the charge that Palin can't be a good mother and a VP, this is 2008. Women can now vote, own property, and have a job and still be a decent mother. I can see many ways in which her children may be safer and taken care of better with her as VP.

Anybody who abuses their position of power to try to fire a former brother in-law and Commissioner simply because of a personal vendetta and not on the basis of job merits is unethical, untrustoworthy and unfit to be a heart-beat from the highest office in the Land.

I agree! Her daughter's pregnancy shouldn't be such a big deal.

This whole thing is just ridiculous.

Nicely said! It is time for the country to butt out of Bristol's life! No family is perfect and the fact that Palin's 17-year-old got pregnant does NOT mean she is morally bankrupt. She is wholly qualified to run a country...unlike Obama who has had NO experience in executive leadership. And speaking of moral bankruptcy, I find it hysterical that the Dems and Obama supporters and jumping on this bandwagon when Obama himself is in favor of infanticide.

I completely agree that Palin's personal life and that of her daughter have no bearing whatsoever on her candidacy. However, it does reflect in two different ways her potential leadership ability. On one hand, if Palin cannot have authority or instill values in her own daughter, how can she possibly be a qualified candidate for second-in-command of our entire nation? And on the other hand, perhaps she approved her daughter's behaviors, or left the choice up to the girl. Neither of which say much about her values...

It's none of anyone's business. Obama did cocaine in college, and the media aren't jumping all over him as much about that. It only goes to show that no one is perfect, and that Palin is not immune to what a lot of American families have to go through.

EXACTLY!! If "personal character" didn't matter in how certain others did their job, then how can this count against Palin doing her public job? And how does it "spoil" her character, anyway??? You are SO RIGHT...some great people probably don't run because we've all got skeletons in the closet! Nobody's perfect! And thanks for your encouraging comments on mine - great minds think alike!

AMEN! If I can say that. I'm sick of people basing their decision on outside factors, not what she can do as a politician! Well said and written Kerry!
