Bristol Palin Makes Finals of DWTS - Teabaggers Vote for Dancers like They Vote for Candidates

Jeff Musall
Some were surprised when it was announced that Bristol Palin will be in the finals of ABC's Dancing With The Stars. Frankly, I wasn't.

It's no slam on Bristol Palin to say she wasn't the best dancer in the semifinals. She has made progress, and the judges acknowledged that. But her level didn't come close to matching Brandi, who was eliminated. As the Disney kid had the tween vote locked up, the rest of the voting should have come from those who looked at talent. But alas, this is the year of the tea, right?

When Tom Bergeron said early on that this week saw the highest number of votes ever at this stage in the competition, the fix was in. Teabaggers were a callin' for their champion. It's a shame they

Just like their votes for flawed candidates in the election, talent and ability didn't matter. It's not a stretch to say someone who voted for Christine O'Donnell, Joe Miller, or Sharron Angle somehow imagines Dancing With The Stars as a chance for voting revenge. Yes, they are just that small minded.

In the future, Dancing With The Stars may have to steer clear of "stars" who can be drawn into political conflict. It's not fair to the competition or the dancers. It's not even fair to the over-voted dancer darling who must now dance in the final in the awkward position of knowing she shouldn't be there.

It's a flaw in the voting to allow those who would swamp the process to be able to do so. Of course, it would be hard to fix. If ABC were to limit voting to one vote, there would be no way of controlling how many times a person voted using different methods or phone numbers. So unless ABC were to go to a judges only results program, viewers will have to be content with people who vote more on emotion than talent.

We could hope that once Dancing With The Stars wraps up, we might never have to hear more Palin family drama. If only it were so...

I love the heated discourse! I've made my Palin vote by never having tuned in to this show. Ever. Even pre-Palin. If I wanna see sexy dancing I can just turn on TELEMUNDO and I don't have to even have the volume down to not understand what they're saying.

Jeff, “Mindless voters who vote for her” – YOUR calling them mindless and your watching “DWTS” - Now really, who’s the mindless one!! Hey, Fill me in “What’s Paris and that Richie girl up to these days”?

  • Jeff Musall11/19/2010

Smegma - haven't heard that one in awhile...but SW, you miss my point - hers is a false celebrity because of her mom, and Bristol has decided to ride that 15 minutes to a fat paycheck. By doing so she opens herself up to criticism. But it's not even her I'm critical of, it's the mindless followers who vote for her because of her last name....

Aw Jesus, leave the damned girl alone. It's not her fault ya hate her political mom. And for those who think it's okay to bust on her for teen pregnancy, you lefties are hypocrites. Ya support abortion and teen motherhood when it's one of yours but let someone you disagree with be in the situation and your true intolerance shows. "Teabaggers" Jeff? So is it okay if I refer to lefties as let's see here....Dumb asses? Liars? Morons? Jerkoffs? Smegma? Need I go on? F'ing hypocrites.

DWTS is all about entertainment. Have any of you posters ever watched a real professional dance competition? They don't have audience participation and votes. Seems to me that all of you complainers can't handle what the majority of votes dictates. I didn't vote for Bristol, but I think I will start (if there are any more voting opportunities.) I'm a disenfranchised Democrat tired of reading comments about how the show is racist or political. People vote for whatever reasons they want to. Maybe they want to see how badly Bristol dances next to the others. Who knows, but the venom directed toward a 19 yr old young woman is pathetic. From where I sit, it appears that Bristol has a lot more "star power" than most of the participants on this show and in previous seasons. Everyone knows who she is and it seems like Bristol is as much of a "star" as Paris Hilton who does nothing, contributes little to society and has less entertainment value than

Ugh, why is Bristol even on the show? She's not a "star" unless that's the new word for a knocked up teen mom.

Jeff, Your funny “I got banned when I said maybe Sharron Angle wasn't a good candidate...” - Really, No kidding… Gosh, Those Tea Party people must not have a sense of humor…I would bet the house, YOU wrote / said a little more than that!! And Michael – Lib’s made Bristol a star, when they pranced her ex-boyfriend Levi on every Liberal show to get dirt on her and Sara.

  • Michael Segers11/17/2010

Someone asked, "What exactly makes Bristol a 'star'?" Try being the pregnant daughter of a Mamma Grizzly, who basically threw her under the bus for her own publicity.

I might need to sign up for these party emails. Could be a great source of laughs. Or it might make me need to chew my wallet.

Interesting comments so far...my "outrage," of course, is a little tongue in cheek, but what happened is indicative of a tunnel vision that afflicts most teabaggers...as for tea party emails, I used to get them daily too (I listed myself as a gentleman from Wasilla) but I got banned when I said maybe Sharron Angle wasn't a good candidate...
