Bristol Palin Pregnant, Again?
From Rumors to the Truth and Back to the Election
The Rumors Began
As soon as McCain named the Alaska governor as his choice for VP on Friday, the Internet was on fire with rumored stories that Sara's baby, Trig Paxson who has Down's syndrome is actually Bristol's own child.
The Truth Comes to Light
The story about the Palin family cover-up was faced head on. An aide who wanted to remain unnamed stated that both the Palins and the McCain campaign decided to clear the air about the rumors and, "In the course of correcting that, we needed to get the truth out."
Bristol Palin is a 17 year old high school senior who is about five months pregnant. Her parents Sara and Todd Palin issued a statement stating that Bristol is going to keep the baby and marry the father of her child. They are happy with her decision and proud to become grandparents.
How Does this Play into the Election?
It doesn't. The Republicans and Democrats may not agree on most things but when it comes to dragging families into political debate its something they all agree shouldn't happen. On getting wind of the Palin news, Obama stated that families are never a topic for discussion in the campaign for president. "Let me be as clear as possible," Obama said. "I think people's families are off-limits, and people's children are especially off-limits. This shouldn't be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as governor or her potential performance as a vice president."
A sentiment that was reiterated by McCain's senior advisor Steven Schmidt, "The one thing that all the candidates agree on is this: Leave the kids alone. Leave the kids alone. This is an election about the future of the country."
And the residents of Wasilla, Alaska couldn't agree more. Bristol's pregnancy was neither a secret nor is it anybody's business is pretty much the general consensus in the town that became big this Labor Day weekend with McCain's surprising VP choice and the following controversial news of Bristol's pregnancy.

I think that the Republican party assumes that because Palin has a down syndrome child that they will gain brownie points for families and women with autistic children, not! It's a very stupid idea and this my friends will be their down fall in this election. I don't know why they are wasting their money on this election when they have lost the battle before it even started! Ha! Take that!
Most US women voters 'unimpressed' by McCain's VP pick
"When women voters learn that Palin opposes abortion even in cases of rape and incest, opposes stem cell research and, as governor, opposed funding for state pre-kindergarten programs... a majority say... (they) feel less favorable toward her," the poll showed.
"Women voters see the choice of Governor Palin as being driven by politics rather than by any sense of conviction on Senator McCain's part that she has the experience and qualities to make a good vice president," the research group said in a statement.

People's children are off limits? This is not about her daughter bristol, no one is attacking her daughter... this is about another GOP corrupt politician who wants to be vice-president or president.

Gov. Palin needs to take a DNA or blood test to prove that baby trig is hers... all the evidence is supporting that the baby belongs to Bristol, her daughter.
I saw pictures and VIDEO of gov. palin when she CLAIMED to be 7 and 8 months pregnant, AND SHE DIDn't look 7 or 8
In my opinion the larger issues are Sarah Palin's support of legislation to repeal women's rights, her stance against animal rights (setting a 150 dollar bounty on wolves and allowing unfair aerial hunting), her energy stance (the typical drill, drill, drill only policy of Republicans everywhere), her abuse of power as governor in a number of instances and the heartless, almost mechanical, means by which she attained that power.
how about this... does a woman who MUST have known that this would be a media sh*t storm of an intensity that is hard to measure, have the judgment needed to be VP or Pres? I mean she basically subjected her family to judgment (fair or otherwise), because of her ambition to climb the political ladder. If family is so important to her, how could she in good conscience subject them to this kind of scrutiny that she knew HAD ot come?

Yes, Jesse, perhaps you are right that its no big deal that a young high school girl is having a baby out of wedlock. The point should be that it is her choice to make, not the government's. And if Her mother and the right wing have their way, this girl would have no decision to make.
Awesome article, and seriously with the USA at the top for teen (13-15 year olds pregnancy) it is really not such a large deal that a legally culpable (17 is legal consenting age in Ak) decides to have a child.
