The Jost Van Dyke island, as it's know, is a small remote island that you'll need to take a ferry to get to. The ferry known as Tortola, will take you to the island as it sits thirty minutes away from where your plane will land. Don't worry about packing a lot of clothes because you wont need much besides a bathing suit, flip flops, and a shirt and shorts. You'll will stay right on the water, completely surrounded by nothing except your thoughts.
The cottage that you'll stay in will consist of a bed, small kitchen, a bathroom that's outside, but completely private, and a hammock that overlooks the ocean. The Sandcastle Hotel is rather a small Inn comprising of only 7 suit houses. There are 4 houses on the water, about 70 feet from shore, and 3 houses on land that overlook the ocean, but also a beautiful exotic garden. All cottages you stay in have air conditioning and come completely furnished. The shower that's outside only has hot water during the day because the heat from the sun warms the water. Be sure to take showers at night, or you'll get a cool shower in the morning.
There are no real laid out activities that will be provided. This type of place is meant to be used for complete relaxation. You'll have plenty of time to write, read books, or swim. There is a bar thats on shore, 70 feet from your cottage if you're staying on the water. It's name is Soggy Dollar Bar because by the time you swim to shore and get a drink, the money you give the bartender is soggy from the water. The bar is also known for a popular rum drink known as the Original Painkkiller. Besides having a small kitchen, you'll need to make your meal plans in advance. In your kitchen is a bulletin board with daily food options. For breakfast this needs to be filled out the night before and for dinner it needs to be turned in by mid afternoon. The selection might be small, but the food will be well worth it.
The Sandcastle Hotel may be a very small place, but once you leave it you'll miss the quiet time. The hotel's ambiance of bright blue water, white sandy beaches, and completely being away from the real world, is what keeps it's visitors and honeymooners coming back. There are no telephones, TV's, or anything with an electrical wire to reach the outside. This hotel is meant to be relaxed in. So while you're there, sit back and enjoy the peace.
