Britney Bombs at the 2007 MTV VMA's

No Comeback for Britney

Don't get me wrong, I usually enjoy watching the MTV Video Music Awards. I love seeing the talented artists get their rewards from the fans and to see the support that the fans demonstrate, even to see the musicians humbled on stage...but the 2007 MTV Video Music awards were probably the worst I have ever seen. In fact, I couldn't even watch the entire program. From the very beginning of the show I was in pain, excruciating pain. All of the hype this year surrounding the VMA's was focusing on Britney Spears and her comeback moment. From the red carpet, muscians were giving Britney words of encouragement and support. Artists such as 50 cent and Alicia Keys were backing Britney and eagerly anticipating Britney's opening performance. Many fans have questioned whether Britney would be able to step up to the plate and turn out an awesome performance. After several years on hiatus, raising two children, a failed marriage and a shaved head...this is exactly the chance Britney needed to save her dignity and gain some of the respect she has lost from fans around the world. Unfortunately, it did not happen for her.

Brtiney came out on stage in a tiny black sequined bikini and boy cut shorts. The crowd of music celberities couldn't have been more pumped to see Britney reclaim her sex appeal and rock the house at the Palms hotel, but it did not happen. Instead as the video cameras panned out to the crowd, all you could see was dissapointed and embarassed faces. It wasn't because of some outrageous stunt-like the kissing scene with Madonna, it was simply because Britney's performance was painful. The lip singing was off, her energy was no where to be found and it almost appeared as if Britney was on another planet and a robot had taken over her body. She was on stage in front of many successful musicians and artists and couldn't manage to give them a show. In years past, the old Britney Spears absoutely rocked the house with her snake wranging and girl kissing show. This year's VMA sideshow was nothing to be desired. In fact it was just another painful moment for Britney Spears to overcome in the media.

This year the 2007 MTV Music Awards was truly dissapointing for me. From the opening by Britney Spears to the painful monologue of Sarah Silverman, I was in absolute anguish. The only thing positive about the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards was that some of the other performers lived up to my expecations. As for Britney Spears, no comeback at the VMA's was achieved this year.
