Britney Bombs VMAs...And We're Surprised?

This morning the Associated Press reported that Britney Spears bombed the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) last night, and among other things, said that she was out-of-shape. Considering the things that Britney has shown us about her personality, critical thinking, and people skills in the past year, I'm still astonished by the fact that we're continually surprised by her less-than-perfect public outings.

Let's take a look about her comeback performance at the House of Blues back in May of this year. Fans paid more than $125 for a ticket to see Spears lip synch and dance for approximately 15 minutes and I'm not sure who I should be more ashamed of: the fans for paying that much or Britney for even assuming her fans should pay that much to watch her lip synch and dance with a wig. To Britney's credit, she managed to keep the wig on the entire performance. However, to the fans credit, they paid or a ticket to see "The M&Ms" not Britney. I think I'd be asking for a refund.

Let's go back even further, to Friday, February 16, 2007. The day that Britney proved to the world that she had absolutely no critical thinking skills at all and shocked the world by shaving her head completely bald. Although, I will have to give her credit here. She let a bunch of entrepreneurs on Ebay make an absurb amount of money by selling the alleged locks of her hair their stylist family members sent to them. Once again, I'm not who I should be more ashamed of, Britney, the people who sold the hair, or the people who bought the hair.

If we would want to go into her child-rearing skills, we could just wait and see if Sean Preston has any fears of falling when he gets older, but we won't go there. However, I will go into her people skills a little. We know that her and Kevin Federline hate each other worse than Kid Rock and Tommy Lee apparently do. However, Britney can't even get along with her mother and let her see the grandchildren for five minutes without getting into an argument. Therapy, anyone?

After all of the mishaps in just the past six months, let alone the last year, I have to admit I was completely floored when MTV announced that Spears would open the VMAs. I can't say that I'm even remotely surprised that she showed up out-of-shape, couldn't even lip synch, and acted like she didn't care that she looked horrible at perhaps one of the most important night in any popular musician's career. I am surprised, however, that the Associated Press reported that Spears' had a new best friend, in the form of P. Diddy and that he was shocked by her performance. I'm surprised for two reasons, that Diddy would become the former pop princess turned bald lip syncher's new friend and that he was shocked by the less-than-great performance she gave. If Diddy's going to associate himself with Britney, he may have to lower his expectations down to her level, which right now, it looks like is the floor.
