Britney Has a Hit with Hold it Against Me

"Hold It Against Me," the new song by Britney Spears, has hit #1 on iTunes this morning. It has only been eight hours since the song was released on iTunes! "Hold It Against Me" was released early after it 'accidentally,' prematurely premiered on New Zealand iTunes. Those crazy New Zealanders just couldn't wait for their new Britney Spears!

Once the early release was known then the new song was rushed to radio and then iTunes here in the United States released Hold It Against Me last night at midnight. And now it would seem that Miss Britney Spear's, just a scant eight hours later, has a chart topping number #1 new song on her hands.

The only song to ever rise faster on iTunes than Britney's "Hold It Against Me," was Taylor Swift's "Mine" which rose to the top of iTunes in just five hours after release. But to be fair, Taylor's Mine was heavily promoted and was released at 4 p.m. EST, not midnight like Britney's release of Hold It Against Me. So I maintain that this song is a major hit for Britney Spears.

There has been an amazing reaction to the new song from listeners on the radio. According to Z100 via MTV, "People are going crazy for it. They heard the leaked version and loved it, and now they're loving the official version too. I can see it being another huge hit for her."

Early reviews of the song from major industry song-barometers include: 4 out of 5 stars from Rolling Stone; 4.5 out of 5 from Artist Direct; and very upbeat reviews from MTV, Yahoo Music!, Top 40 and The Sun .

"Hold It Against Me" was produced by Max Martin and Dr. Luke, and they both worked on her last big album Circus. Both producers have worked with amazing artists and made mega-hits for stars like Miley Cyrus, Kelly Clarkson, Pink and Katy Perry. These guys know how to make great music. And it looks like they have done it again. Hold It Against Me is off to what just might be Britney Spears most successful kick-off of any single she has ever released.
