Britney Spears' Blackout: Early Album Review

Has the Former Pop Princess Regained Her Form?

The Reviewer
For the past several years, Britney Spears has been known more for being a media train wreck than being a pop star. From her marriage to Kevin Federline, her divorce, various trips to rehab and nasty custody battle, Britney has focused on everything except for her music. Finally after much delay, her new album Blackout is finally about to hit the masses. So will she be able to overcome all of the adversities in front of her to make a good album?

The first single off of Blackout is Gimme More. The track is produced by Nate "Danjahandz" Hills. The track is Britney's reintroduction to the market. The song is a typical dance song with not that much to it whatsoever. The song started off slow but somehow picked up steam and has become one of Britney's most popular songs.

The rumored second single is Piece Of Me which is produced by Swedish production duo Bloodshy & Avant. The track is nothing special and is not all that pleasing on the ears. The song is definitely one of the disappointments of the album.

Break The Ice is also produced by Danjahandz. The track is another dance track. The song is actually stronger than Gimme More. The song features many Timbaland inspired elements which makes sense because Danjahandz is one of Timbaland's many protégés.

Radar is also produced by production duo Bloodshy & Avant and written by The Clutch. The duo is responsible for one of Britney's greatest hits Toxic. This song just does not have the appeal of Toxic. The beat gets extremely annoying after a single listen.

Hot As Ice was written by R&B artist T-Pain and produced by Danjahandz. The song does not sound like a traditional T-Pain produced track. The beat is okay but nothing remarkable. The vocal on the song brings the whole track down.

Toy Solider is a decent up-tempo track written by Sean Garrett. The song is not the worst track on the album but just is not that great.

Perfect Lover is yet another Danjahandz produced track. The song just does not stand out whatsoever and is another filler track.

Ooh Ooh Baby is another OK track. The song is written by Kara DioGuardi and produced by Fredwreck. The song seems to be even more filler.

The track Freakshow is one of the worst tracks on the album. The song was a combination of The Clutch and Bloodshy & Avant and is just downright terrible.

Heaven On Earth is an interesting track which is very easy to listen to. The song is definitely a change of pace on an album mostly filled with frenetic club tracks.

Got Naked (I Got A Plan) is another up-tempo track which does not add much to the whole project. The track is once again produced by Danjahandz.

Why Should I Be Sad is produced by the Neptunes. The track is one of the catchier tracks on the album. The song talks about Britney moving on from all of the issues in her life. The track is one of the more personal tracks on the album. The song features very subtle jabs at her former husband Kevin Federline. The track also hides Britney's vocal deficiencies. The song is one of the catchiest on the album and is a perfect way to close off the disc.

Blackout is a mixed bag. There are some very strong tracks and some that just seem to be filler. One thing it will do is help to remind people why Britney was famous in the first place. Britney fans will definitely love this album, but everyone else will just think it's mediocre. Blackout gets 7 out of 10. If you're a fan of Britney, make sure you pick up her new album Blackout when it is in stores on October 30th.
