Britney Spears Circus: Early Album Review

Does Circus Show Us Inside the Pop Princess?

The Reviewer
It has been a little over a year since Britney Spears' last album Blackout. Die-hard Britney Spears fans hailed Blackout a full return to grace from the former pop princess. Now Britney is back with her follow up to Blackout with the ablum Circus. Will Circus continue the positive momentum for the pop princess?

The first single off of Circus is Womanizer. The track was produced by upstart producers The Outsyders. The song is a very solid pop-dance track. The production, writing and delivery are all in unison as a positive first start for Circus.

The second single is the title track Circus. The song is a solid follow up to Womanizer. The production is interesting and the writing works well with the theme of Britney's life.

Mannequin is produced by production team The Underdogs. The track is more urban than most of the rest of the album. The song is fairly solid just nothing memorable.

Blur is produced by Nathanial "Danja" Hills. The song is one of the better tracks on the album. The mid-tempo song works on many levels. Britney Spears delivers a solid vocal performance to go with the strong production.

Kill The Lights teams Britney again with Danja and Jim Beanz. The song is a fairly solid up-tempo track. The beat features a minimalist drum track and haunting synths.

Bloodshy & Avant produce Unusual You. The song is another fairly solid mid-tempo track. However it is not all that memorable.

Legendary songwriter and producer Max Martin created If You Seek Amy. The song is one of the more unusual tracks on the album. The song features different horn sections during the chorus and various vocal effects and harmonies.

Out From Under is another standout track. The song is one of the rare mid-tempo ballads delivered from this era's Britney. The song is well produced and written. Britney's vocals are layered so many times it almost covers her vocal deficiencies.

Shattered Glass is one of the better tracks on the album. The song features solid production and a strong melody that is memory. The only thing that might irk some people is Britney's pronunciation of the word glass.

Mmm Papi is another non-offensive pop track with some elements of Spanish music. The song just sounds like a poor imitation however.

My Baby is another ballad and probably the best track on the album. The minimalist song has an almost folk appeal to it. The track just a kindness and a heart missing from present day computer assisted Britney Spears.

Radar was also featured on Britney's last album Blackout. However it has been remixed for Circus. The track is basically the same as the previous version.

Overall there is not much difference between Circus and Britney's last album Blackout. The albums both share the need for highly computerized assistance for Britney and meaningless production that is forgettable. Overall Circus gets 7.5 out of 10. If you are a fan of Britney Spears, make sure you pick up Circus when it is available in stores on December 2nd.
