Britney Spears Comes Out on Top Again!

Robert Getz
What a year it has been for Britney Spears, packed full of bad news and reviews. There have been many events in her life this year starting with losing custody of her two sons Sean Preston and Jayden James after multiple trips into a rehab facility. Her life had been set back with her father taking over conservatorship of her business and her album Blackout (released late 2007) only receiving fair reviews.

That's the down side of her year but not the only side this year has brought. Guest starring on How I Met Your Mother (CBS) as a receptionist brought great reviews as well as the best rating the show has ever had. She opened the MTV Video Music Awards for the third time and won best of awards for female video, pop video and video of the year for "Piece of Me.".

Putting all of this into perspective has brought out a new Britney, one in control and determined to be back on top. On the 15th of September her record company Jive announced her new albums "Circus" as well as the release of her new single "Womanizer'. Smashing records it shot to the top of the Billboard charts , debuting at number ninety six it made a record shattering jump of 95 spots to hit number one the following week. It seemed as though Britney was back on top. Not only was this her first number one single since Baby One More Time but it broke the record for fasted jump to the number one position previously held by T I with his song Live Your Life but it shattered the record for the biggest jump by any record in the history of the Billboard charts held by Beyoncé and Shakira with the song Beautiful Liar.

Things are definitely looking for the former pop diva and they were only going to get better. On December 2ndCircus hit the stores as Britney released her comeback album and what a comeback it is.Debuting at the number one spot on Billboard's Top 200 "Circus" sold a massive 505,000 in its first week. Yes Britney is most definitely back with a bullet. This fifth album by the former Disney star has garnered yet another record, the only star to have four albums debuting with 500,000 or more copies sold in its first week. And according to Yahoo she is now the most searched person on the internet. What a great finale to a year fraught with terrible events and bad press.

Look out music fans it seems that Britney may have been down but don't count her out yet, it seems like she has reinvented herself and is just getting started.
