Britney Spears Flees Rehab Again

I'm sure that everyone who watches television knows about the Britney Spears hair-shaving incident. We all know that she checked herself into rehab, and now, after less then one day, she has checked herself out. According to the article written on http://news.yahoo.com, Spears left the live-in rehab center earlier today. "The Insider" television news magazine program initially reported that she had a car service called, then walked out of the Promises Malibu Treatment Center early this morning. It was later reported on the TV show "Extra" and the celebrity website TMZ.com left the rehab center because she couldn't handle being there. Naturally, the rehab facility, Spears' manager, and Federline's manager -- why does he need a manager in the first place? -- are all declining to comment. How nice of them to try and protect her privacy, despite the fact that she lives her entire life in the spotlight.

For all of us watching this drama unfold, we're probably all wondering the same thing: has she or is she losing her mind? Judging from her behavior, one would have to say yes. Spears is a young woman who shot to fame at an early age. She has been in the spotlight for so long that we almost miss her when she's not talked about on one of the gossip shows or in the gossip mags. We've followed her musical career, from that first video "Baby, Hit Me One More Time" and hoopla that arose from her cover on Rollingstone Magazine in promotion of the album, to her much publicized relationship with Justin Timberlake (which we all thought was so cute and sweet), to her recent poor judgment in marrying Kevin Federline, who was a back-up dancer and left his pregnant girlfriend to be with Spears.

One could say that all she is going through right now is karma. One could say she's just having a run of bad luck. I go with the former. She knowingly involved herself with a man who was in a relationship with a woman who had one child by him and was pregnant with a second. That's strike number one. Then she goes and has a very impromptu wedding, which her family and friends obviously weren't thrilled about. Now, that could have been a legitimate attempt to avoid all the media frenzy and nosiness which comes along with a celebrity wedding. At the same time, she cheated her family, friends, and her fans out of seeing her go down the aisle decked out in the best wedding finery she could buy. That's strike number two. In short order, she pops out the first of her two sons with Federline, and gets caught in the driving-with-the-baby-on-her-lap fiasco. Why anyone with an ounce of sense would do such a thing is beyond my comprehension. That's strike number three.

Usually after the third strike, you're out. But this is a celebrity we're dealing with, so she has more chances to go up to bat. When she finally decides to see the light and dump her husband, I think we all breathed a collective sigh of relief. Unfortunately, that relief was short-lived. Not too long after annoucing divorce plans, the next thing we see is Spears hanging out with Paris Hilton, with no panties on. Now, of all the people in the world to cultivate a friendship with, why in the world would she pick Paris? Paris, as far as I'm concerned, is the poster child for useless people. She is an extremely wealthy heiress who does nothing more than go from one club to the next, from one celebrity function to the next, spending hoards of money, and trying to torture us with her porn videos and lackluster singing. That is strike number four. And now, the icing on the cake is the hair-shaving incident.

All this is the ultimate form of a meltdown that I have ever seen. Even Mariah Carey wasn't this messed up. The one thing in common, though, is that the meltdown began when they both left relationships they thought they would be in forever. Maybe that is the hidden lesson in this whole Spears fiasco...never put your eggs, or in this case your heart, into one basket.
