Britney Spears and Maybe Michael Jackson

To join Britney Spears and Michael Jackson in one sentence you are either talking about fallen stars, who not to elect as parent of the year, who to keep your children away from by themselves or the MTV Video Music Awards. Since we are so close to the MTV VMA kickoff I would have to say we are talking about the two possibly being on the MTV Video Music Awards.

It has been confirmed Britney Spears will not perform on the MTV Video Music Awards but she will be opening the show. According to Spears to open MTV Video Music Awards, MTV Networks Music Group President Van Toffler said Wednesday, it'll be something "fun and unexpected" on Sunday night's MTV VMA show.

Toffler said he feels people are rooting for Britney and she is on the road to recovery. MTV has also nominated her for three VMAs including video of the year for her "Piece of Me" clip. This is the 25th Anniversary of the VMAs and Britney Spears has been a critical piece of MTV's history. Toffler also said it feels like it is Britney's year.

Britney Spears bombed in 2007, although the VMAs ratings were up 23 percent over the 2006 show. So, Britney Spears does equal ratings. Britney Spears has given the VMAs many "shows" over the years. She kissed Madonna on stage and then one year she even performed with a snake.

Britney Spears said in a statement how could she not be at the 25th VMAs? She's excited to open the entire show, say hello to fans and to be nominated. MTV has played an important part in her career.

Toffler also raised the suggestion that pop icon Michael Jackson may be appearing. He said they have been talking to him but nothing is definite until the day of the show.

If it weren't for MTV, we would have never learned to Moon Walk. Michael Jackson is as much a part of MTV as Britney Spears, and Madonna. Of course, Weird Al should be in that category as well.
