Britney Spears: From Mickey Mouse and Beyond

Spears was born Britney Jean Spears on December 2, 1981 in McComb, Missippi. She grew up in a strong Baptist family in Kentwood, Louisiana the daughter of a building contractor and a former elementary school teacher. Her tight knit family continues to play a huge roll in her career as well as her personal life. Brother Bryan is one of Britneys managers and younger sister Jamie is pursuing her own singing career. Even with fame and fortune, Spears continues to keep her family ties strong.

Spears got her first taste of stardom at age 11 as a member of the Mickey Mouse Club. In 1998, Britney Spears took the teen rock scene by storm with her first album Baby One More Time and has sold more than seventy-six million records worldwide. By 2002 Spears had been named Favorite Pop New Artist by the American Music Awards and had two Grammy nominations to her credit. Spears was also named as the most powerful celebrity in the world by Forbes Magazine. She is the only female artist to have her first three albums debut at number one in both the United States and Canada. Her first four albums debuted at number one in the United States.

While her later albums were not as successful as her debut album, Spears continued to draw huge crowds to nearly every performance. It seems as if everything she touches turns to gold. Spears developed her own line of fragrances with the debut scent being named "Curious". Her first attempt at perfumery was a huge success that netted over $100 million dollars in it's first year of sales. "Curious" was named the best selling fragrance of 2004 and Spears has since teamed up with the Elizabeth Arden Cosmetics Company to produce further scents. From being a published author to having a doll made in her likeness, it seems as if her fans just can't get enough of Britney Spears.

In some of her not so shining moments, Spears filed for annulment after a short 55 hour marriage to long time friend Jason Alexander She later married dancer Kevin Federline in October of 2004. Their is no doubt that Britney Spears has been getting the wrong kind of media attention since her marriage to Federline but it appears that she is preparing herself to step back into the lime lite. Soon after a surprise appearance on the David Letterman show where Britney was noticeably missing her wedding ring, she hit the recording studio in New York and is preparing to release her fifth album in 2007. Ridding herself of Federline, instantly made Spears a single parent to her two young sons that are fathered by Federline.
