Britney Spears Naked in Womanizer Music Video

Womanizer Woman Shows Womanly Curves

Daniel Thrasher
The new single from Britney Spears, Womanizer, has vaulted 95 spots to the top of the Billboard charts and shattered some records. Womanizer is the number one song on iTunes, and the Womanizer music video is now featured on the iTunes' home page. It seems like America just can't seem to make up its mind about the pop princess.

I noticed Womanizer while browsing iTunes and figured I'd see what the fuss was about. Well, imagine my surprise when the first image in the music video preview is Britney Spears lying back seductively in a steam room, singing to the camera, naked. Completely naked. No, there's not even a shred of decency (or clothing) for this new Britney Spears. Every time she fades from the limelight, she comes back wearing less. At this rate, she'll be a skeleton in her next comeback music video.

To be fair, Womanizer is a poppy, catchy tune. Of course, the lyrics aren't exactly intellectual: "Boy, don't try to front, ah-ah, I know just-just what you are-ah-ah," followed by half a dozen "Womanizers." I respect Britney Spears for recovering from a traumatic time in her life, but I think it's horrible what she's allowed herself to be reduced to.

My problem isn't that Britney Spears has regained her pop princess post. What I am appalled about is the Womanizer music video alternating between Britney Spears naked in a steam room and Britney Spears practically mauling the, uh, "womanizer." The issue is that Britney Spears isn't naked for a Playboy shoot here; she's naked for a music video that's presumably targeted at tweens and teens, and it's available on YouTube! There's no way of knowing how explicit the Womanizer music video is from its lyrics. Granted, this wilder, more sexual Britney Spears has been spotted in recent music videos like Toxic, but never so much of her.

People inevitably make the comparison between more experienced pop sensations like Britney Spears and relative newcomers like Miley Cyrus and Vanessa Hudgens. What's disturbing is the fact that these young Disney Stars have already had scandals because they have been photographed in a way that contradicts their "good-girl" image. This all highlights a pervasive problem in our society: the objectifying of women. We have expectations of these young girls that are impossible to meet.

Ironically, the very message that Britney Spears might be trying to make in Womanizer (though it's laughable to think that Britney Spears makes meaningful songs) is undermined by her behavior in the music video. If she rejects the notion that men should "play" women, that they should be "womanizers," then she probably shouldn't be completely naked in her music video! For those of you who are interested, Britney Spears' new album, Circus, is coming December 2.

I liked the video. Overall, the message was poor but the video was entertaining. Basically, a videos job is to entertain and I think it did its job.

I think she really needs to start surrounding herself with better people. She seems like she's trying to figure it all out, but as a mother of two small children and as a role model for our youth, she really needs to grow up and start sending a better message.

Although Britney Spears is a great singer and I love her music, I feel awful for her becaue she presents herself in a way that is percieved as saying "take and indulge in everything I am for the satisfaction of your urge for pleasure." It sends a message to our youth that it is OK to use women as a means to satisfy a desire as opposed to the concept that a woman's body commands respect. It runs contrary to the dignity of the body and Britney's video is not helping the cause for women to be respected. I don't want to judge her, but I feel awful for her because I think she is making a mistake.

I actually feel bad for Britney. I think she means well. She's just imbalanced.

Yes, Britney spears is a "Bad Role Model," and she remains a corporate controlled commodity, a position I wouldn't wish on anyone, regardless of the financial compensation. But somehow, I'm glad she's making a come back. In recent years she's shown a defiant streak, and that she has a mind of her own. Given my own history of drug and alcohol abuse, I'm not in a position to judge anyone on those grounds. I am however glad that my 16 year old step daughter ignores her. Her message for young women isn't a very positive and healthy one. Right now she's into Tokio Hotel, and seems to like Georg Kaulitz, the Kaulitz brother who actually looks like a dude...not that Bill isn't kinda cute too....Oh well....

Very good article. It doesn't make much sense to be naked in a video with this subject matter.
