Britney Spears could very well redeem herself at the 2011 Grammy Awards if she does perform her new track, "Hold It Against Me", which caused quite a commotion on the web when she released it a little bit earlier than planned. The single has been getting lots of buzz lately, and, even though the line "If I said I want your body now, would you hold it against me?" is incredibly similar to the cheesy pickup line found in the Bellamy Brothers' "If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body", somehow Britney Spears makes it all her own (and she definitely makes it sound a whole lot sexier).
But the big question, of course, is if Britney Spears could do this sleek and smooth, high-octane dance track justice while performing it live in front of a TV audience at the 2011 Grammy Awards. She would definitely have to lip-synch, and she'd have to come up with something really over-the-top to erase our memory of her last terrible TV performance.
The 2007 VMA's saw Britney Spears sporting some terrible hair extensions; barely shuffling around on the stage; and sporting an unflattering outfit composed of a bra and sequined undies. Of course she's proved that she can put on a show since with her Circus tour, so surely she can't show up with another disaster like "Gimme More".
And it would be nice to see Britney Spears team up with someone for the "Hold It Against Me" performance. Could she and Christina Aguilera reunite? Or what about ex Justin Timberlake? She could always collaborate with Justin Bieber to remain relevant, or set off some fireworks by performing with Katy Perry and donning one of her kooky and kitschy costume creations. Of course Lady Gaga will be promoting "Born This Way" (she's set to drop a new single in February, the month of the Grammy Awards), and it could also be pretty interesting and epic to see Britney Spears team up with Kanye.
Whatever happens, let's hope that Perez Hilton is right and this performance does happen, because it seems that Britney Spears is really primed this time for a provocative performance like those that she first made our jaws drop with, whether she shares the stage or not.
