With the entire world watching, Britney Spears took her children hostage right outside her Beverly Hills mansion. After Spears refused to let her two children go with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline's bodyguard at the 7pm PST, the scheduled pick up time, police and Federline's lawyer were called to the Beverly Hills mansion.

As the fire trucks and ambulances arrived at the house, Britney Spears held her two children hostage until 11:45pm PST, when Spears was removed from her Beverly Hills home on a stretcher by paramedics. The paramedics believe Spears was "under the influence" of an unknown substance during the episode. Britney Spears youngest son, Jayden, was taken to the hospital as well, but was released to the custody of his father, Kevin Federline. Both of the couple's children, Shawn and Jayden, are currently in the custody of Federline.

Britney Spears was taken to Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles, by a police escorted ambulance, restrained on a stretcher. Spears was admitted as a "special needs" patient. As explained by an inside source "special needs" patients means that the patient has either over dosed or tried to commit suicide previously. The patients have constant care and are monitored closely.

Britney Spears will spend seventy two hours in Cedars-Sinai hospital undergoing observation. Spears is in the hospital on an "involuntary psychiatric hold". This allows for people in need of "severe mental treatment" to be held for up to seventy two hours involuntarily. If during this time, the doctors determine further medical help is needed, the stay can be extended against the patients will.

Paparazzi swarmed the Beverly Hills home all trying to get pictures of Britney's "breakdown". They crowed around the ambulance as Britney was loaded into the ambulance, strapped to a gurney.
