Brittany Murphy Remembered

Debi Rideout
I am saddened about the news that Brittany Murphy died last Sunday on December 20, 2009. She was pronounced dead at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. An autopsy is being done, but it appears to be natural causes that caused her death. She was only 32. I will always remember Brittany Murphy well.

I am not the type of person that mourns every celebrity that dies although I am always sorry for the friends and family of any person that dies. However, this has been a tough year celebrity wise. Many wonderful people have died, and that is sad. For example, Michael Jackson passed away this year, and many people miss him. It has just been a sad year in celebrity deaths.

Brittany Murphy's death though, for me, is very sad. In some ways I have always felt like I could relate to her. I am about the same age as her, and through her work I feel like I have grown up with her. Her movies have made a big impact on me. I will miss seeing more of her work.

I remember the first time I saw Brittany Murphy on the big movie screen. She was in the movie Clueless. She played an awkward girl who gets transformed by her friend into a popular girl. I was that awkward girl too. Watching her get transformed gave me hope that I too would soon be out of my awkward stage of my life. I am happy to say that I did get out of my awkward stage, and I became popular just like she did.

The second movie that made an impact on my life was the movie Little Black Book that Brittany Murphy starred in. I was in my twenties, and I saw the movie with my cousin. My cousin and I do not live close by, and so it was a real treat to be with her. My cousin and I grew up more like sisters than cousins. Watching this movie together was our girl movie and our girl time together. Whenever I think of this movie I think about how important it is to have that special girl bond in your life.

Just Married has always cracked me up. When Brittany Murphy played this part I was newly married myself. I could relate in so many ways to the confusion of new love. My love story with my husband ended with a happily ever after too.

There has been lots of Brittany Murphy movies that I have loved in my life and not one of her movies have ever left me disappointed. My most favorite movie of hers is Uptown Girls. The reason behind this is because it is a movie that my own daughter and I watch together. We have watched it together a zillion times. You can see us dancing around our own living space just like there was in the movie. It helped me to remember how precious children are, and how to be the type of mom that always puts her children first.

So, yes, I am mourning Brittany Murphy's death today. She was a friend of sorts because through her movie work I learned so much about myself. I learned to laugh through life, and how to get through the bad times. So, although I never met her in person, I will always remember Brittany Murphy's spirit in her acting. She will be missed here on earth, and I will really miss seeing more of her work. I do have a feeling though that she will bring her greatness with her wherever she is now.

Nice tribute. Many forget Brittany voiced the hilariously lovable character of Luann Platter. She was so multi-talented. Great work here.

Nice to see a fan's perspective.

It is very sad. She was a talented young woman and from what I hear, a genuinely nice person. I won a few of her movies and have seen others..may she rest in peace.
