Brittany Murphy's Death Accidental According to L.A. Coroner
Death Could Have Been Prevented with Medical Treatment
According to a report on People, Assistant Chief Ed Winter stated that Murphy's death could have been prevented if she had seen a doctor earlier. The Coroner's Office did not specify which drugs were involved, however did confirm that there were no illegal drugs in her system. Murphy was taking prescription and over the counter medications.
Simon Monjack, had stated that Brittany had been sick and taking medications prior to her death. Brittany was found dead in the bathroom of her Hollywood home by her mother, Sharon Murphy on December 20, 2009.
Pneumonia is a serious condition that some people assume can be easily cured with antibiotics, but that is not always the case. People die of pneumonia and infections every day, so this is a disease to take seriously.
According to the National Institute of Health, pneumonia is a respiratory condition where there is an inflammation of the lung. Community Acquired Pneumonia is pneumonia contracted by people who have not been exposed to the illness in a hospital or health care facility. Pneumonia that is acquired at a hospital is called Hospital Acquired Pneumonia.
Pneumonia is a common illness that afflicts millions of people each year in the U.S. The illness can be caused by bacteria and viruses that spread to your lungs. Pneumonia caused by bacteria tends to be more serious.
If you are diagnosed with pneumonia, your doctor will determine whether you need to be in a hospital or should be treated at home. In the hospital the treatment includes intravenous fluids, oxygen therapy and breathing treatments. Treatment at home includes antibiotics, drinking plenty of fluids, getting lots of rest and pain medication.
Pneumonia can have serious complications, including respiratory failure, lung abscesses, sepsis and acute respiratory failure. Sepsis is a condition of uncontrolled swelling (inflammation) in the body, which can lead to multiple organ failure, causing the vital organs to shut down and stop functioning.
Brittany Murphy also had iron deficiency, according to the coroner's report. Iron deficiency anemia is a common condition in young women. A person with iron deficiency does not have enough red blood cells to transport oxygen to the body tissues. There are many types of iron deficiency anemia. Common causes are blood loss (including blood from menstrual bleeding), poor iron absorption and too little iron in the diet.
Brittany Murphy's death was caused by a combination of factors, all of them serious. Murphy died from a combination of pneumonia, iron deficiency and multiple drug intoxication. According to the LA. Coroner, Murphy was taking medication at home instead of seeking the medical treatment that could have saved her life.
