Brittany Murphy's Husband Does Not Want Autopsy Performed. The World Speculates

Celebrity Deaths Do Not Allow for Creativity in Speculations

It was the morning of Sunday, December 20, 2009, when Brittany Murphy went into cardiac arrest after a significant amount of vomiting and was pronounced dead at the hospital, at the age of 32. The news broke shortly on TMZ and very quickly spread all over mainstream media.

All over the internet, people speculated and are still speculating on the cause of death; it is not normal for a young woman of her age to die of a heart attack, after all. The typical gossips of drug use ran rampant.

Sources noted that no illegal drugs were found at her home, not that these stopped the gossips about cocaine usage, but a large amount of prescription drugs, written for Brittany Murphy, her husband, and her mother were found.

Diabetes came up as a possible cause of death. However, this idea seemed to be quickly squashed down; perhaps this isn't as exciting as the other possibilities for the general public.

Still others speculated that the cause was anorexia. Many people mentioned Brittany's weight on various social media. The Scoop on msnbc.com ran a short piece on how Brittany Murphy's death is not a surprise; it included various quotes from different people about how terrible, sick, and painfully thin she had been looking.

I personally think that what is truly not surprising is that none of these people who said such things so soon after Murphy's death wanted to be named in the article. My belief is that if you can make such harsh comments hours after someone's death, you should have the guts to put your name to your words.

Before you can even finish naming Brittany Murphy's recent works, another article revealed that Brittany Murphy's husband, Simon Monjack, did not want an autopsy performed on his recently deceased wife.

Obviously, the world moved onto speculations about her husband's request (which was predictably dismissed by the coroners, and rightly so). Multiple comments were made on the internet that Simon Monjack has something to hide, he had been feeding Brittany medication, he is a drug pusher, a con artist, and that the police is now checking for marital problems that could result in foul play.

I want to say that I'm impressed by the imagination of our society, but these are the same speculations after every death, so I have to give ourselves an F for creativity.

The nicer people speculated that perhaps Murphy's husband simply doesn't want his wife to be remembered as a drug addict, and thus doesn't want an autopsy done on her.

I know nothing about the actress, her husband, or their lifestyles. However, not once did I see anyone speculate that maybe, just maybe, it was his and/or Brittany Murphy's beliefs (religious or otherwise) that made him make that request, knowing full well that it was out of his control and how it will look to the public when they inevitably find out that he didn't want this for her.

It isn't a far fetched speculation; many people have requested the same for this very reason.

But this isn't an exciting explanation that will send the world abuzz, so I am pretty sure that I also get an F for creativity in my speculation, except I am hoping for a passing mark of D, just for going against the grain a little.

Regardless, my condolence goes to Brittany Murphy's family and loved ones. It is truly sad that such a young life was lost and a spouse is now receiving the burden of insensitive gossips. People seem to be forgetting that these speculations affect real people who are dealing with the shocking aftermath; I hope that this article brings people back down to earth, if only a little bit, and if only for a short while.
