Brittney Powell Stars in "Stacy's Mom" (2010)

"Stacy's Mom" was a popular 2003 song by alternative rock group, Fountains of Wayne, which to date has been their highest charting single. The song is about an adolescent's crush on his classmate, Stacy's mom, who in the video was portrayed by model, Rachel Hunter. The video helped launch the acting career of Shane Haboucha, who played the 12 year old boy who thinks Stacy's mom "has got it going on."

A movie coming out on July 1, 2010 stars actress and former playboy model, Brittney Powell, as Stacy's mom. The 38-year old German-born actress has appeared in 9 films to date, including last year's documentary, "Midgets and Mascots," featuring the late Gary Coleman.

In the movie, not one, but 4 of Stacy's classmates fall in love with her hot mom. Her four young Casanovas include relatively new actors Logan Manus ( Tommy), Jesse Stevenson ( Mark), Rashad Monson ( Roland) and Mario Cassem ( Juan), who had a part in the popular Zac Efron popular movie, "17 Again" (2009).

Stacy is played by TV actress, Haley Fite, in her first movie role.

The four boys in the movie angle reminds me a little bit of "The Last American Virgin" (1982) and the sexual escapades of 4 teenage boys with Latin bombshell Carmela, played by Louisa Moritz. The song "Stacy's Mom," however, was actually a tribute to the Car's "My Best Friend's Girl" and Ric Ocasek was offered a part in the video, although nothing ever came of the offer. One of the boys in the opening sequence of the video is dressed up to look like a pre-adolescent version of Ocasek. There is also a nod to "Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982)" from a particularly suggestive scene involving Judge Reinhold and Phoebe Cates in a red bikini. Jennifer Jason Leigh's character in "Fast Times" was named Stacy.

It's coming out at the end of a week when we're going to be bombarded with tributes to Michael Jackson following the one-year anniversary of his death. "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" is at the end of June, too, so it's not exactly the greatest timing. It all sounds pretty trite and predictable, just another movie trying to capitalize on the popularity of a song that was originally one of the most downloaded tracks on iTunes but, according to its Facebook page, Stacy's Mom the Movie, it's going to be pretty funny and a lot of people are looking forward to its release.

I like to support young up-and-coming actors and indie film producers, too, and you never know -- "Stacy's Mom" might turn out to be the early work of the next Sean Penn, Forest Whitaker or Nicolas Cage, who were all in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" when they were just starting out.

"Stacy's Mom" directed by Patrick Sayre, due out on July 1st through OnDemand and Instant Streaming Formats.

Wow. I don't think I've heard of a songbeing turned into a movie. The model however, I believe I mentioned in another article about celeb's who've posed for playboy.

I hope the movie turns out better than what's expected. I like the premise and tribute to the song; it all comes down to the execution.

Back when I was growing up, nobody's mom looked like Brittany Powell. Some things have changed for the better.

Hey, if they can make a movie from a 60 second skit on Saturday Night Live, there's no reason they can't make one from a four minute music video.
