NASHVILLE, TN - Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) honored Ronnie Dunn on Thursday afternoon, August 4, 2011, for his many hit songs that he has written that have totaled over 60 million performances. The upscale party was held in Nashville, Tennessee at BMI's headquarters.
Dunn was surrounded by Music Row professionals and friends as he listened to BMI Vice President, Jody Williams as he recounted his association with Ronnie Dunn from the time he met him when Dunn was a contestant on the Marlboro Country Music Contest held in Nashville, TN to present day. Dunn won the Marlboro Country Music competition in 1988 and went on to win many other awards in his career with his former partner, Kix Brooks, the other half of the dynamic duo of Brooks and Dunn.
Dunn's most popular songs performed at least one million times are "Cowgirls Don't Cry," "Believe," "Mama Don't Get Dressed Up For Nothing," "Proud of the House We Built," "That's What She Gets," "Play Something Country," and "You'll Always Be Loved By Me." Songs totaling at least two million performances are "Red Dirt Road" and "Little Miss Honkey Tonk". Songs acknowledged for three million performances are "She's Not the Cheatin' Kind," "Brand New Man," and "That Ain't No Way to Go". "Neon Moon" scored four million performances while the ultimate party song "Boot Scootin' Boogie" racked up six million performances.
BMI estimated that 14 songs mentioned above that Dunn has penned or co-wrote all together have numbered over 60 million performances. Dunn was honored with six framed plaques which contained the songs he was honored for and the number of performances each had.
Brooks and Dunn parted ways in 2010. The popular duo won many awards during their 20 year partnership, including multiple Top Duo of the Year Awards, the T.J. Martel Lifetime Achievement Award, and a ACM Milestone Award for winning the most awards in the Academy of Country Music's history along with many others.
Ronnie Dunn has since struck out on his own solo and has released his first album self-titled "Ronnie Dunn." The two singles released to date, "Bleed Red" and "Cost of Livin'" have both been hits. Clips from the songs on Ronnie's new album can be heard at his official website .
With the success of Dunn's singles from his first solo album, I am sure he will be gaining many more nominations at annual award shows and of course, taking a couple more big awards home.
