Broadway Shows on a Budget - Four Discount Websites

When it comes to saving money on Broadway you have a few options. One is standing on line 5 hours before the show at the TKTS booth in the middle of Time's Square, paying in cash which you will have to carry in your wallet on the subway to Time's Square, and then killing another 2 hours before the show starts. Here are 5 websites and email lists that will save you up to 50% on the cost of the ticket, and you can pay with a credit card.

These websites and email lists offer discount codes to all sorts of shows. You will have to read the fine print with each offer, some are only available for certain dates or show times. Usually you have three options for claiming the discount. You can print up the email and bring it to the box office, this saves you the shipping and handling, and any other fees the theater charges. You can also call, or go on the theater's website and enter in the code.

BroadwayBox.com is the first site I check. It's kind of like a portal for Broadway shows. The site offers a list of shows with discount codes, you can also search by date. In addition if the show isn't listed, or is sold out, BroadwayBox provide links to ticket brokers. BroadwayBox also has show reviews and previews.

TheaterMania is another theater portal that has a discount page. I find the list of discounts to be not as complete as BroadwayBox, but they do offer discounts for other metro areas. The review and news section is also very good.

Playbill Club is a member's site. You sign up, and receive emails with discounts. This is the best site for new and popular shows, as they are usually the first to publish a discount code. Playbill also has the best news, and reviews.

SmartTix sells tickets to many off Broadway, and off off Broadway shows. A good alternative if you're not in the mood for a big budget musical and want to see something smart and political. You have sign up for their email list to receive the discounts.
