Brock Lesnar Pulls Out of UFC 106 Vs. Shane Carwin, No Replacement Fight Named

Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin were supposed to stage one of the biggest, literally and most likely figuratively, fights in the history of the UFC on November 21, 2009 in last Vegas at UFC 106.

But now, Lesnar has been forced to pull out of the fight due to what UFC President Dana White told Yahoo Sports was an illness that has left him feeling as sick as he ever has before.

It appears as if the Tito Ortiz-Forrest Griffin fight also scheduled for UFC 106 will be the new main event for the evening, and that's not a bad idea for White because both guys are very popular and capable of selling a lot of PPV buys. At the same time, however, both aren't exactly on the upswing of their careers.

As for the Lesnar-Carwin fight, it will likely be re-scheduled for UFC 108 in January according to the Yahoo article which should make for another PPV bonanza for White.

There has not yet been a replacement fight named for the UFC 106 card but there are some interesting undercard matchups that could be moved up including the fight between similarly polarizing, boastful welterweight Phil Baroni and former Ultimate Fighter winner Amir Sadollah.

If the UFC wants to add a fight, several other contenders are also available in the heavyweight division including Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Junior Dos Santos, and maybe even Cain Velasquez, who beat Ben Rothwell without suffering much more than a few scratches.

It will be interesting to see if the UFC does add a replacement fight to take the place of Carwin vs. Lesnar but if not, UFC 106 still is an interesting card considering the other good fights for purists such as Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Luis Cane and Dustin Hazelett vs. Karo Paryisan among others.

But of course, without Lesnar and Carwin, it won't be anywhere near the spectacle that fans were hoping for this time around. Still, as the old saying goes, good things come to those who wait.
