Broken Bells Will Rock Your World!

Richard Eneff
Indie Rock gains a huge victory with the pairing of James Mercer (The Shins) and Danger Mouse (Gnarls Barkley). The debut album Broken Bells hits stores on March 9th, 2010, but don't let that stop you from hearing it now on Myspace and NPR.ORG.

So you aren't into indie rock? Well maybe you should be! This combines the love of hip hop beats with anything that has a keyboard and the most mellow guitar and vocals sure to sooth the angriest of souls.

The first single "The High Road" starts off like some random notes off of a poorly written soundtrack to a 1985 Nintendo game. What is this random crap and chaos? Then the beat kicks in to bring order to jumble of notes. It starts to make sense. Give it a second more, the high hat and lyrics start and a beautiful mix of funk and indie elevate you to a state of musical ecstasy.

Let's be honest, Broken Bells doesn't change music. It doesn't define a generation or inspire children to put down their pencils, pick up guitars, and start a revolution. No, Broken Bells is two great talents deciding to work together and just Jam! It's like the comfort food of music; it just makes you feel good.

What makes this album good is that its solid. There are no dead spots. There is no fast forwarding or skipping tracks. You will sit down, turn down the lights, and get stoned to the sound of damn good music. Let it take you on a journey of the familiar in vibrant color and beats.

If you don't love this album by "Sailing to Nowhere" then you haven't been listening. A slow beat roller coaster that makes you wonder; how does Danger Mouse produce. Then the guitar solo makes you want to grow a beard and sit around naked with all the ladies. But don't get to wild, the proper sounds of piano and strings make you shave, put on dress clothes and want to be British.

1Don't be mistaken by the European influences here, this is a purely American made album recorded in the Danger Mouse studio in Las Angeles, CA!

If you can, buy this album on 3/9/2010. If you can't physically own it, get it on iTunes the same day. If you live in the UK, you will have to wait until 8/3/2010 to get your hands on Broken Bells.
