Broken Lover

Mandy Kaye
Love left me useless, broken, and scarred
Each selfish lover has pushed me too far

Memories whisper the echo of pain
Holding me helpless, to love you again

The images haunt me with each passing night
I am your hostage, too tired to fight

But you just keep on taking, leaving me weak
vulnerable, fragile, and alone on my knees

Now I am empty my heart beats in vain
I'm not sure I can ever love you the same

Because something is missing, I can't seem to find
I just keep on searching, your love left me blind

I try hard to balance, to stand and recover
But I'm doomed to keep living, a heart-broken lover

A lovely, sad poem addressing a universal human experience. Learning to let go and move on is essential. You have to be your own soul mate. Any time you seek completeness in another person, you are setting yourself up for grief. Listen to the song "the rose".

I could feel the heartbreak after reading each line. Excellent choice of words to display human emotions of sadness. Great job.
