Broken New Year's Resolution Leads to Resolve

It seems that every year I select a New Year's resolution that is impossible for me to keep. I have yet to successfully keep a single New Year's resolution through the month of January, much less the entire year. This year was no exception. This time, I must protest that it was not all my fault.

My New Year's resolution was to keep my dishes caught up. I am horrible at procrastinating. I usually do my dishes every morning, but it would be so much nicer to wake up in the morning to a nice clean kitchen. Thus, all I had to really do was wash the dishes after supper, right?

Yeah, it was a good plan. I actually managed to keep up my resolve for all of three days. Those three days, I must say, were wonderful. I would wake up in the morning and waltz into the kitchen for a cup of coffee. The kitchen was clean with all the dishes done.

On the fourth evening, however, the phone rang. We had just finished supper when I had a phone call that I had not been expecting. My mom, who is very ill, had been asking for me, so would I please go over. Of course, how could I refuse?

We had a great visit that lasted several hours. When I finally got home, it was all I could do to crawl into bed, much less worry about the dishes. I woke up the next morning and stumbled into the kitchen. The sink full of dishes was there to greet me.

I ignored them long enough to drink a cup of coffee before facing them. It only took a few minutes to get them tidied up, but it was not as nice as waking up to a clean kitchen.

My New Year's resolution was broke, but my determination was reborn. Thus, I am doing my dishes at night and enjoying my clean kitchen in the mornings.
