Brooke White Forgets Lyrics to You Must Love Me from Evita

Brooke White forgot her lyrics last night on American Idol! She started, stopped, and started to sing "You Must Love Me" from the film adaptation of 'Evita.' Fortunately she forgot the lyrics within the first five or ten seconds, so she decided to stop the band and have them start over again. This is the second time Brooke White has decided to stop the song and restart. The first time was during the her version of "Every Breath You Take."

Did Brooke make the best decision? Maybe and maybe not. I personally think it was her best option instead of mumbling through the lyrics ala David Archuleta. However, she received a stern criticism from Paula Abdul. She thought Brooke should have faked her way through it with "whatever felt right in the moment." Paula knows all about going with whatever sounds right in her head and not really filtering for content. She routinely rambles and speaks unclearly like it is her job. Oh wait, it is her job. I think some people tune in just to see what Paula Abdul might say on live TV.

But, enough about Paula. I think Brooke's performance was less than stellar. I am normally in her corner all the way. I even rooted her on after her performance of "Here Comes the Sun" by George Harrison. I normally love her positive energy, but on this week's show, she left a lot to be desired. It felt like her heart wasn't in it. She had a perfect opportunity to really showcase her ability to connect with a song's meaning. She failed to do that, in my opinion.

Brooke, I hope you're back next week. I would love to see you have another chance, but I'm not sure you'll be able to survive the cut this week.
