Brooke White Returns, Performs on American Idol Results Show

"Hold Up My Heart" Has 1970s Feel to it - Perfect Brooke White

Brooke White, the American Idol finalist that the Los Angeles Times once referred to as "the most demonstrably emotional contestant in American Idol history" made an appearance on the American Idol results show Thursday night, all smiles and comfortably seated at her piano. She was on to perform her latest single, "Hold Up My Heart," which had been released the previous day for download on iTunes.

Brooke White, as many will remember, captured the hearts of many on Season 7 of American Idol, especially after she told Simon Cowell that he could not corrupt her (she had confessed that she had never seen a dirty movie...). Her kindness seemed to shine through every week and even when she miscued, stopped, and said she was starting over, the American viewing audience allowed her the mistake and kept her in the competition.

Brooke White would eventually be voted off the show, finishing as the number five finalist, but not before she made a lasting impression by doing great renditions of Carole King's "You've Got A Friend" and the Beatles' "Let It Be" (and considering the hatchet job most of her competition did on the Beatles' songs, she was by far a standout). But lackluster performances on two Neil Diamond songs did her in (and in all fairness to Brooke White, no one but David Cook did very well on Neil Diamond week last season).

Her new single, "Hold Up My Heart," is the first single off her upcoming album, "High Hopes and Heart Break," which is slated to be released in early June.

Brooke had an album she recorded for an independent label in 2005 called "Songs From The Attic" re-released in 2008 while she was on tour with the other American Idol finalists. It peaked at No. 6 on the iTunes Pop Albums chart. It has since sold over 50,000 units (Wikipedia.org).

Back in January, Brooke White teamed up with Season 7 finalist Michael Johns, who also has an album being released in the next couple months, for a duet for the soundtrack of the movie "Shaun White: Don't Look Down." The single "Life Is Okay" was released on January 16.

"Hold Up My Heart" had a 1970s kind of feel to it and should do well on the Adult Contemporary Charts. What was refreshing was to see that Brooke White had not changed her singing or performing style.

She told Ryan Seacrest that she was glad she was not a contestant, being fully aware of being in the position of awaiting the news on an American Idol results show, and then offered the gathered finalists some words of encouragement before launching into her performance.

Yes, I thought the same thing, very 70s-sounding. I loved it when she advised them not to Google themselves.
