Brooke White Stumbles on Neil Diamond Night

Neil Diamond night on American Idol was an important night for Brooke White. She has had several weeks of weak performances, and it was time for her to turn things up a notch. At one time, Brooke White was a viable contender in the competition, and she needed to show what she was capable of doing.

For her first song of the night, Brooke White sang I'm a Believer. Immediately, I felt that was a bad choice. From the first strum of the guitar, it was easy to tell that the song was going to be a struggle for Brooke. Forced smile on face, head bobbing with the music, Brooke White gave a goofy rendition of the hit song. It was as if she was attempting to appear happy and show that she was having fun. In the end, though, it seemed like an act.

Simon said that the song was a wreck, and I could not agree more. Brooke defended herself against the wreck comment, but in reality, American Idol is about power voices and remarkable performances. Both were absent during I'm a Believer.

Brooke White had a second chance to turn things around last night on American Idol, though. For her second performance, Brooke took to the piano to sing I Am, I Said. She took Neil Diamond's advice and changed one of the lyrics from "New York" to "Arizona" in order to give the song a more personal feel for her. While she did show emotion, she still stumbled in places. I Am, I Said was MUCH better than I'm a Believer, but at this point in the competition, it may have been too weak to save her.

Brooke White is a very talented performer on American Idol, but she is the weakest one left. She has lost her confidence and her spark. There is a good chance that she will be going home on tonight's episode of American Idol.

If the American Idol viewers do not send Brooke White home, then it will probably be Syesha Mercado who will leave. That would be a shame, however. Syesha gave a much better performance than Brooke, and deserves to stay for at least another week.
