One of the best book festivals in the United States takes place every year in Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Book Festival, now in its fifth year, brings literary heritage together with publishing and the public. This year, the festival will be honoring New York poet John Ashbery.

Ashbery is considered to be one of the country's most important poets with his work still proving potent and controversial. He has won almost every major American poetry award as well as a Pulitzer Prize in 1976. Now he can add the Brooklyn Book Festival's BoBi award to the list.

John Ashbery was born and raised in New York, where he still lives today.

The Brooklyn Book Festival attracts the hottest members of contemporary literature. This year, more than 200 nationally and internationally recognized authors will participate in readings, discussions, and other events.

Ashbery will receive his award on Sunday, Sept. 12 at Borough Hall Park. At St. Francis College at 1 p.m. that same day, he will participate in a panel discussion with another New York writer, novelist Paul Auster.

Admission is free but tickets are required. Visitors may pick up tickets at Brooklyn Book Festival information booths at Borough Hall Park starting at noon Sunday.
